Oh great. That's what they'll use now.

The entrance should probably mirror the Disneyland entrance in height and width, making the esplanade sort of an portal type of place.

The GG Bridge has never looked right, it needs to be fixed. The murals are really good art, and should be saved someplace.

But whatever they do, it should reflect in size what is across the way.

You can see DCA from many places in Disneyland. Grizzly Peak and Tower of Terror are clearly visible from Town Square to as far back as Fantasyland.

Really? I've never noticed that. Before they were relocated you could easily see the powerlines from Main Street and the Hub if you looked towards Town Square.

I think too much has been made about the outside visual intrusions at DCA. Other than power lines on Katella and a few other things beyond the southern edge of PP I don't really think it's as big of a problem as some folks make it out to be.

I think it is so extremely important that you don't bring guests down psychologically by making them walk past all that old DCA tedium before they even have the chance to marvel over the new and improved DCA that awaits far inside.>>

That is going to be a hard issue to complete successfully. If they replace the entrance/Sun Plaza, but then the rest of the park is the same old thing, it will seem that they are just repackaging the same old crap with a new wrapper (pretty much what “placemaking†is anyway).

They are going to have to make a lot of changes in a balanced manner so that people will feel that there is a big overall improvement being made.

The rest of the park also has several areas that may seem small from inside but have access to other expansion plots for more attractions.

DCA will continue to grow as it gets older.>>

The remaining parking lot is pretty much all the room that’s left to expand into. If they have any intention of eliminating the Harbor entrance and using the existing seven lanes between the parking lot and the remaining motels and businesses on the corner, they will have to do it before any construction on the Carsland area. As those lanes are about 100 feet wide, there’s little that they could add after the initial expansion.

Unfortunately, the huge (60-70 foot) power lines (that they decided not to spend the money on to bury before DCA) is right on the edge of those lanes and will have to be dealt with even if they decide to use that space. I believe that there may be some clearance issues as to how close any structure can be built those power lines.

As for the rest of the park, there is very little remaining space that could be annexed for future attractions. The only real viable space is behind the Screamin’ coaster. But that would remove the parade building in that area, a cast member cafeteria and much of the remaining LIMITED space for maneuvering and backstage access. So even if it is used (some of which probably will some time in the future), they will still have to provide for the backstage access they need.

This way, the space right behind the coaster can be used for new attractions (or possibly a new land). Space may be tight right now, but once they take out the traffic lanes (and the constructions crews clear out), there will be a lot of room to push back into. However, this may also mean that a lot of things will need to be rebuilt.

Major renovation will start very soon. The idea is to have the area around the bay finished and ready so that Disney's world of color" could premier with little interruption.

The plan is to turn the northern edge of the bay into tiered viewing. This would include the area from the patch of sand west of golden zephyr to the paradise bay bridge.

That area near the water pretty much needs to be completed way before the show premiers in 2009. Meanwhile areas across from that will already be under construction.

Carland (as it is being called at the moment) will really not affect much of the park. Most of it will be built in timon lot with a portion taking over a piece of the farm.

"What is going into the second phase of the DCA expansion?"

    Evenmore attractions.

possible expansion of grizlley peak, the area now considered Condor flats and other attractions in the pier area near the coaster. Also possible additions to vacant areas in Hollywood backlot.

Basically one more "E" ticket for each land. The plans are still being worked on.

That is why I have insisted that people wait till the project is done before saying everything added is Pixar character based.

You are correct the lot is the last remaining untouched area for expansion but that does not mean that all the lanes and other roads need to be removed at once before Carland starts.

When lands are built there is always areas left with the idea that future attraction showrooms can be built within these areas. Nothing is permanent. Consider the addition of Indiana Jones. No one would had imagined that an attraction could be built within the already tight space of adventureland. With some planning and a few changes backstage a large showroom was added. the same was done with Splash Mountain and Toontown.
Some of those lanes could eventually be used for backstage roads or other uses.

"Unfortunately, the huge (60-70 foot) power lines (that they decided not to spend the money on to bury before DCA) is right on the edge of those lanes and will have to be dealt with even if they decide to use that space."

At the moment the area underneath the powerline towers have access roads for the parking lot. Those roads could also eventually become the major backstage roads for the park. This would allow for other roads to be moved and altered. Remember DCA does not need a huge backstage area since it has the advantage of sharing the large Disneyland backstage infrustructure connected via a tunnel on the east side of the property.

"As for the rest of the park, there is very little remaining space that could be annexed for future attractions. The only real viable space is behind the Screamin’ coaster. You are correct everything that is built has to have somekind of road access. That is no problem is planned properly. I am sure you have also noticed that the park has several large gates in diferent areas of the park that allow for anywork truck or delivery truck to acces any part of the park via the parade corridor.

As for the rest of the park, you are mistaken. The park was built with avaialble plots for future attraction expansion. Some people make think the park was jsut thrown together with no thought put into it but no park is built that way. All parks are built with the idea that they will have to change and evolve. Sometimes people do not notice these empty areas because they are landscaped or basically out of view but there is room for attractions in every land.

Sometimes the land is used temporarily until the time comes for change.
Believe it or not the pier itself has room for several attractions.

Consider what was done with Mania, the backstage road was altered and the fencing in the south part of the park was pushed out towads the access roads.

Also look at the west end of the pier. The area south and west of the west helix. That area could easily be reconfigured for future development even if it meant removing the large curved exit for the parking. The parks service gate is north of that and a road could be connected to the backstage area.

What i am trying to say is that eventhough the park will eventually use all of its existing expansion land the park will evolve and things altered to fit new additions. Its taken Disneyland 52 years and it still has room. DCA will eventually have the same amount of acreage.

Don't forget that not to long ago Disneyland also had a couple motels and restaurants bordering its property on the Ball road side. No telling whether the motels in DCA's southern side might be there 20 years from now anything is possible

The project won't be done for 10 years. That's a silly thing to ask for.

Didn't you realize that was all part of the macro theming? They PLANNED this from the beginning.

It was ALL planned to be this way.

    Seriously.
