In fact by Thursday it will have caught up with what Monsters Inc had made at that point, and with Monsters Inc final tally at over $250 million, Cars could have quite a lot of territory ahead of it.

It will be interesting to see how the juvenile-looking Click and (later next week) the very adult Superman impacts Cars.

"Cars" should pass Over the Hedge this weekend on the 2006 all-time list. "Cars" is at $139.8 million while "Over the Hedge" is at $142.5 million. The top grossing animated film for 2006 -- "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown" -- is currently at $193 million. At it's 15th day of release (which is where "Cars" is at), "Ice Age 2" had a domestic gross of $135.1 million.

Around about $155m to date and it should have another good week.

Well I hope their expectations weren't too high:

    Opening Weekends
    Mr Deeds - $37 million
    Anger Management - $42 million
    50 First Dates - $40 million
The Longest Yard - $48 million
    Click - $40 million

Honestly Click while ridiculously overpromoted seemed to do about average for an Adam Sandler release. I guess they were hoping for a wider audience?

Meanwhile Cars keeps chugging along, bringing in a very nice third weekend. At this point it's tracking right along with Monsters Inc and ahead of Toy Story 2. That means depending on how well it fares against Superman Returns and POTC, Cars could still make in $245-250 million range.

Anyone at this late date still want to explain what a great disappointment this is...?

You keep saying that Doug but ultimately the Studio is disappointed in the box office gross. A $120m movie that takes a month to get to $200m domestically is not a home run by any stretch of the imagination.

You keep saying that, yet I don't know what you're basing that on. Have you got a link to someone at 'the Studio' saying how very disappointed they are in this movie's results?
