Is that a disappointment? Or another one of those alleged "travesties of justice" like when (the deserving) Lilo and Stitch had the great misfortune of running smack into (the even more deserving) Spirited Away? Ebert and Roeper both declared Monster House a better movie than Cars on their show last week. And A Scanner Darkly is getting better-than-Cars reviews too, although I wasn't as impressed by it. Now, I'm not saying Cars won't win. And I'll only believe Monster House is that good when I see it for myself. I'm just suggesting that the cult of Lasseter may want to start strategizing spins for the Oscars. Just in case.

I would hope that Cars would be a nominee, and would naturally be pleased if it won. But it is often true that box office success doesn't translate into awards. And Cars had been a big success at the box office.

So if you choose to refer to people who like "Cars" as being in a cult, do you then count yourself and others like you as having an axe to grind against Lassiter/Pixar? Fair's fair, right? I didn't care that much for the film, but I can certainly recognize what the box office is saying about how much other people seem to be interested in seeing the film. What cult does that put me in? /cs

You're silly. >>Okay I am gonna hold on to this comment for the Oscars. We'll see, << Hold away. Be sure to bookmark this topic, so you can spend hours searching in vain for my saying that Cars wasn't going to win. I have made no such prediction. That was Ebert and Roeper. I did imply that Cars might have some serious *competition* for the Oscar. I realize some would consider this heresy. Sorry if it got your Hawaiian shirts in a bunch.
