In the end I expect Cars to be right underneath Toy Story 2 with about $200-220 million.

I was just being conservative. All in all, Cars' opening is nowhere near bad and really is only dissapointing to those expecting a radical opening (me for example . The question will be how good the legs are. Finding Nemo had much better legs than Incredibles which many people blamed on Incredibles coming out when kids were not at school. It will be interesting to see how close Cars can get to Incredibles ($260 million). Just for comparisons sake: Chicken Little's Opening Weekend - $40 million Chicken Little's End Gross - $135 million Home on the Range's Opening Weekend - $14 million Home on The Range's End Gross - $50 million Brother Bear's Opening Weekend - $19 million Brother Bear's End Gross - $81 million So Pixar's still looking like a good buy to me.
Originally Posted By Dlmusic If the media compares Cars to Ice Age 2, they'll be doing the film a big disservice. Sequels to big films open big and are usually quite frontloaded. For example Ice Age 2 opened at $68 million and will end up with around $200 million. That's a fairly weak multiplier of around 2.9, in comparison to Incredibles (3.7) or Finding Nemo (4.7). That's even weaker than Brother Bear (4.3) or Chicken Little (3.1). So hopefully the press won't start jumping all over Cars until the movie reveals what legs it's going to have.

Originally Posted By JeffG One other point that hasn't been mentioned regarding the film's opening weekend is that "Cars" is quite a bit longer than most animated films at 116 minutes (although it is only 1-minute longer than "The Incredibles" and 16-minutes longer than "Finding Nemo"). By comparison, "Ice Age: The Meltdown" was only 91 minutes. The relatively long running time (over 2-hours, when you add on the short subject, not to mention the previews and other commercials), will limit the number of showings per day compared to most animated features. -Jeff
