I agree that AS had no place in Tomorrowland, no matter what the theme. And I also agree that there's been a shift in theme over the years, with SF (PLEASE don't call it sci-fi!) taking the place of the futuristic nature of the early attractions. I don't mind the shift, but I wish they'd stay a little closer to this new theme. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor has no business in Tomorrowland. And while I like the subs and the Finding Nemo theme, I have a problem with it being in Tomorrowland too.

It's so good, Limp Bizkit made a song about or something, didn't they?

But I hate Limp Bizkit, so that doesn't add anything to the hot dog water.

And I don't really like hot dog water, so nevermind.

Space Mountain is a pretend ride through outer space - on a little space ship; Michael Jackson shucks and jives his moves on another planet after arriving - on a little space ship, Star Tours takes us ... you guessed it, into outer space on little space ships, Buzz Lightyear has us shooting laser beams at aliens from outer space, and Asto Orbitor whirls its gig with guests riding in little space ships. In the center of it all is the Moonliner - a little space ship.

Are you seeing a pattern here? At least Nemo and Friends breaks the mold a bit. It not be 'tomorrowy' but at least it's not outer space related.

Don't get me started on Autopia - biggest waste of space and labor in the entire park.

If you stick with the 1955 theme - a realistic look into the future, then no. But if you go with the shifted theme of science fiction, then yes, all of the attractions you mentioned absolutely belong.

    Eeeewwww!

"Space Mountain is a pretend ride through outer space - on a little space ship..."

The original theme of Space Mountain was tied directly to NASA and civilian space travel. If I remember correctly the coaster cars were called space shuttles. Of course it was no more realistic than the bobsled run down the Matterhorn, but the concept/story fit the science fact premise that Tomorrowland tried to present at the time. I think that's completely different than something like Star Tours, which is an extension of fantasy characters and plot lines. I don't have an issue with Star Tours, but it certainly isn't in line with the original "living blueprint of our future" Tomorrowland.

No scifi? What about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

Only futuristic things? The World Beneath Us was set in the prehistoric past. Carousel of Progress started out at the turn of the century (19 to 20) and just made it to c. 1970.

And there were toons in Tomorrowland long before Nemo.

(The Pavilion has a full kitchen; Blue Ribbon did not.) There is also the possibility for pretty little baked items-- cupcakes and themed pastries and the like. I am sure based on the public reaction, there will be adjustments.

I like the sound of this-- especially a slightly heartier menu at this location. It's central location and fairly large seating area (outdoors) has been underutilized for too long!

I agree. It'd be great to have another sit down breakfast option, too.

I am intrigued by the references to the expansion of the Ice Cream Parlor and candy making kitchen. Will this happen at the expense of the Penny Arcade???

Maybe that popular blogger wasn't told that little detail! ; ) No matter, the basic information has proven to be correct!

Dare I ask where the Carnation food is cooked? I would assume if they can get hot food there, then they could have gotten it to the Blue Ribbion Bakery as well.

Also, it certainly sounds like we're losing the Penny Arcade in this. I really hope that it remains, but I'm pretty doubtful of it. Why keep some old arcade consoles that are presumably relatively expensive to maintain for how much revenue they generate, when you could just expand the ice cream parlor? I hope it's not true, but I suspect it is. Just look at what they did to WDW's Main Street in the early 00's...

This actually dates back to the great Isaac Azimov, one of the great classic science fiction writers. He used the term SF and HATED the term sci-fi. Not really sure why, but it's something I adopted in my youth. The best description I ever heard (and I forget who first said it) was that Lost In Space was sci-fi, while Star Trek was SF. It's a subtle distinction, but an important one.

And now of course we have the SyFy Channel, which is somehow even worse!

At the kitchen for Carnation Cafe. Blue Ribbon Bakery is a separate entity. Interestingly enough, the kitchen at the Pavilion was used to make food for the Bakery.

I stubbornly refuse to call their drek "SciFi", and it certainly isn't SF!(they show WRESTLING - which IS fiction, but sure ain't science!) I've decided to pronounce S-Y-F-Y as "siffy"
