I was wondering about this - are we really the minority here? I mean, I know that the masses want to see cartoon characters when they go to Disney parks, but would they be satisfied with just walk-arounds and shows, or do they need tons of cartoon rides as well? I agree that there should be some cartoon-based rides - in appropriate areas like Fantasyland, or the Animation section at The Studios, but must they be everywhere?

Like I said before, people seemed to enjoy Disney parks for over 40 years with the character rides only in Fantasyland -- wouldn't they still enjoy them now if Disney stuck to that principle??

So the average theme park guest just expects a Disney theme park to have a lot going on with the many different Disney characters. All the Disney Stores sure helped to promote people's awareness of the characters in the late 80's and 90's. Before then, I don't think there was nearly so much awareness of them. So, it's been a gradual education.

ORDDU: Obviously there is a certain percentage of Disney fans out there who admire Disney for reasons OTHER than the Disney characters and they are the one's who seem most troubled by all the recent emphasis on character based attractions, etc. But for those of us who are into Disney BECAUSE of the characters, this is the time to celebrate--as long as good quality attractions are being developed, too. And THAT is the main thing to concern a coven of witches from Morva.

Adding them is just plain lazy. Period.

It's saying 'this is the easy way out, we can get the beancounters approval based on all the merchandising opps and marketing and synergy will love this.'

Worse the additions haven't just been bad ... they've been insulting ... Iago barking at you in Tiki Room ... Stitch belching in your face ... yeah, that's great entertainment right there.

Actually, Art. II of the Const., which addresses presidential qualifications, talks about the "natural born Citizen" meaning citizen at birth and does not reference specifically ***where*** someone is born.

At Walt Disney World they build many beautiful and themed resorts. For me a themed environment done by Disney can be awesome.
    Port Orleans Riverside. http://www.flickr.com/photos/w...3412106/

Yes there are many people who have stayed at Riverside and the other moderate and deluxe hotels who say that they are not Disney enough and that this is what they want. http://www.flickr.com/photos/a...5406889/

For lots of people (not necissarily the majority) Disney thememing means characters and cartoons not just times and places.

Actually... I was talking with a friend of mine at school today when he noted my watch. It was the black and white Classic Mickey Mouse one that you used to get for around $80 on Main Street. Hes normally critical of my likeing of Disney, but he said all the classical stuff is really nice and remniscient of a past era. Furthermore, he said that if Disney didnt promote so much stupid stuff on TV and elsewhere these days, he might ask his parents to go again.

Im not sure, but the is a teen saying this. And I think this might be the overall trend of teens that Disney needs to look into for "our" market.

The problem is Imagineering is just too darn lazy to make anything original and worthwhile (except for Joe Rhode and the tokyo disney team)

WDW has to appeal to a broad spectrum of people which is not an easy job, however they can't appeal to everyone.
