And for those of us who have Republican family members we love who have also taken pains to distinguish between everyday Republicans and the current leadership? Because the above kind of lumped us all together.

Originally Posted By Dabob2 "I get so tired of the generalizations around here" is itself a generalization. Also, I'm pretty sure the OP was referring more specifically to the groups referenced in his link, though the topic title could make that confusing.

Originally Posted By Dabob2 < If you think I am one sided because I don't call out the conservatives here> I didn't say anything about that. I was taking issue with you saying "I get so tired of the generalizations around here. Christians are hateful, Republicans are stupid" and not directing that at anyone specific, thus making it sound as if we all do it - a lumping together. You haven't been around as long as some of us, but there are definitely liberals here who have pointed out countless times that zillions of Christians are not hateful, and that everyday Republicans should be distinguished from the current leadership.

Honestly, if we can't have common ground on that, what hope is there for finding it on anything? I spent a couple of years being bullied. A lot of people who have been bullied claim that persevering through that sort of experience builds character and so forth. I couldn't disagree more. Years later, I'm angry thinking back about that time, and that adults in a position to stop it seemed mostly indifferent. "Boys will be boys, it's all part of growing up" was the attitude. I never felt as worthless as I did during that time. I don't think I gained anything from being bullied, and what I dealt with was nothing compared to what students thought of as gay went through. That's why it angers me that some like Focus on the Family would but their agenda ahead of protecting kids from being bullied. It's sickening and isn't "Christian" in any way that I can understand.
