You live pretty close to me (I'm near Seattle). Maybe you can come to a Seattle meet sometime! :)

"Barbara Striesand has a great Christmas cd"

    Isn't she Jewish? : )

KT Tunstall releasted an Xmas EP through Target that is really good, too, but probably not of everyone's tastes.

I listened to Harry Connick Jrs newly released cd (yesterday) and it was okay. He has written some great Xmas tunes but I didn't so much hear any good ones on the new album which is much jazzier than the first (and best) cd. (And I like jazz.) But, I was at work so had the volume down pretty low.

Enya has a Xmas cd coming out next week. I am not a fan but I like lots of different types of Xmas music and have been listening to more new agey type music this year (in an effort to relax more). I might check it out.

Sarah Brightman (sp?) has a new one out, too. I didn't dig it at all.

I was a little disappointed with their last Christmas CD, as the music wasn't very well known (many original songs) and just didn't seem very Christmas-ey or Mannhiem Steamroller-ey.

Right now I'm listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's "This is Christmas". I know that Mormon's aren't exactly popular right now in general, but they sure do know how to do some impressive music. It's all very traditional, but at the same time it's all very creative arrangements. On top of the huge choir (I believe it's around 300 members), the orchestra is outstanding. And if you haven't heard their version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, then you haven't hear anything (clocking in at over 12 minutes long, it takes you historically through music from Gregorian chants to Sousa marches and everything in between, all while keeping the standard song...impressive is an understatment).

Once I get past those and the lovely extra stress that accompanies them, I think I'll be able to make it 3 or so weeks.

But between all the extra stress and the lower temperatures, I needed a way to get away from it all, and the temperatures (and this thread!) led me to Christmas music. And it's working wonderfully! It's a surprisingly good studying mix...

They used to sing that in our church (they probably still do, but we have moved since then), and it was always great. I remember the first time they did it, nobody had ever heard it before and it was really good. It was a couple years after that before I started hearing it on the radio and stuff, but I'm glad that it's becoming more widespread. It's a great set of lyrics set to a tune that's pretty different than the normal Christmas stuff. It's nice to switch it up a little, as long as we keep it a little similar... : )
