Those with a delicate constitution or weak stomach should use extreme caution in proceeding with reading this account. Due to my loathsome but sadly typical avoidance of Christmas preparations, today, December 17, 2005, only eight days before Christmas, on the LAST SHOPPING WEEKEND BEFORE CHRISTMAS (cue organ music in a minor key), I found myself embroiled in the following nightmarish situation. . . I had to go shopping for Christmas gifts. . . . accompanied by my children. (shrieking crescendo of organ music). We embarked on the following fiendish, multi-pronged mission: purchasing teacher gifts and various other sundries at Barnes and Noble, a complete circle tour of the very large Bed, Bath & Beyond in blind hope that inspiration for extended family stocking stuffers would strike, jostling through the elbow-to-elbow crowd of distinctly un-cheery people in the narrow card aisles of Hallmark, and (you should probably avert your eyes here) the annual trip to the little Glitters' Christmas shopping venue of choice--the Dollar Store. And did I mention that said mission was completed while I was in Day Two of a nasty cold? And without narcotics or sedatives of any kind? And without my co-pilot, Mr. Glitter, who was, of course, busy being yelled at by several hundred guests at The Cheesecake Factory? Needless to say, we barely escaped with our lives. But I am happy to report that we now have teacher gifts, individual Christmas cards for everyone in the extended family, a few assorted gifts for others, and gifts from the little Glitters to everyone in the family, including their grandma's new kitty and their uncle's dog. Ooooo, and the added bonus of a very cool gift from me for Mr. Glitter and even two gifts for the little Glitters which I managed, through great stealth and diversionary tactics, to purchase and hide in the car without their knowledge. If anyone needs me, I'll be in bed with the covers pulled over my head for the next fifteen hours.

I don't even care if anyone likes their presents this year so that's really easing the tension. Ha! So, it's 10:37 and I have yet to roll out any cookie dough. The dough is chilling in the fridge and I was about to start when one of my mild-mannered best friends called me to tell me she had finally had enough and she at long last, stood up for herself! For once in her life she didn't back down and cry! She fought back AND WON! Woohoo! So, that's why I have no cookies. I am going to be so strung out on sugar and caffeine at the party tomorrow. LOL
