(I'm betting a vast majority of Americans haven't even heard of Tokyo Story, let alone seen it.) >>No Casablanca?<< This decade's list seems to reflect a focus on larger themes (Vertigo for the male gaze) and technical innovation and craft brilliance (Kane, Man with a Movie Camera) than concern with storytelling, character, charm, etc. My top 10 would probably have Casablanca in it and would be skewed towards writing - Chinatown would definitely be there as well.
