Sympathy and support are nice on a limited basis, but at some point real therapy is called for, and I'm not sure about you all but I know I for one am not a trained psycologist. So I for one support AD's point. The best advice I can give is find a professional...I may be as broken or even more broken as the next guy.

It is alarming to see the online casual attitudes replicating itself into real world rudeness. Agreed?

I'd far rather someone not make eye contact on the street because they are texting than to have them automatically think I am less than them by virtue of my gender or race. As a modern woman, I have experienced far more open rudeness from men (and women) of a more chivalrous generation than by anyone my own age or younger.
As to not participating or commenting on the "train wrecks" if you don't want your life discussed, don't bring it to a discussion board.

It depends where you're traveling in Mexico. Anywhere on the border is a definite know. But if you go to the Rivera Maya area, Cancun and such you'll be fine. I went there last year, will be going again next year. I've never not felt safe while there.

I will often offer my opinion, even if it may not always be a popular one, but I put myself out there in an attempt to really help, if that is what people are really looking for. But the older I get, the less I am inclined to think people on a site like this want real help. Maybe it is just a chance to vent and get a "there, there" answer. Once upon a time I used to ask for help here, but I no longer feel comfortable in doing so.

You must not be frequenting the WDW General section. I would say that area is the very definition of "fan site" and the regulars are neither kind nor nice as a general rule.
But as for the community, my 2 cents: sometimes being nice is no kindness. Also, when there are inconsistencies in the story of someone asking for sympathy, I think it is an obligation of those in the community on a site like this to question them. People going to the Internet for sympathy and a pat on the head have been known to lie to get attention (I'm not saying for sure that has happened here) and web site communities have been torn apart by that sort of thing. Look into Munchausen's by Internet, you might see something familiar.
Just because we are fans of a company that deals in fun and fantasy doesn't mean those with a more cynical view don't belong here with those that prefer a rosier view.
But to be clear, I am not endorsing name calling and personal attacks. I just think it's OK to question and it's OK to not be 100% supportive when someone has posted an unhappy situation. We're all different personalities here, and it's only correct that we be allowed post honestly even when the opinion isn't popular.
