    wow...that's just like a real job... ;)

The main problem with the parking situation is that the cast member is held accountable at the time clock for shuttle delays, changing of drivers, problems along the route. I have worked at the Park since '94. I have always been a dependable, caring, cast member. The introduction of "Presenteeism" mixed with the KCML are slowly bringing me to the brink of being "Seperated" from the company. Managers who make the policies do not have to deal with the logistics of a race to the time clock. They are unsympathetic to the fact that the driver took his sweet time or the replacement driver wasted time in the switch over. Even though, you parked and were on the shuttle in ample time. The shuttle problem is not their problem. "You got to Harbor House a minute late according to the clock." I live in the LA area. It has been my choice to work at Disney. I drive an hour to the park, I spend at least twenty minutes parking and shuttling each way. My day is a nine hour work day, with a two hour round trip commute and an extra forty minutes dealing with just getting to and leaving my worksite. The new changes that are coming in Febuary (clocking in at your work location) are now only going to add more time to my commute. I fear they will also add to my being minutes late. So, now I will drive to a lot away from the park, get on a shuttle, ride to the park, walk to my location in the middle of the park, and punch. All on my free time. But hey, I didn't have to ride the shuttle. I could have parked at KCML and walked over or ridden my bike. Seems reasonable, right? Disney recently held major job fairs in the Norco area, because they have expended their labor base in Orange County. There is a reason cast members are leaving in droves. It is becoming much easier to work in your immediate area for the same compensation and less hassle. I am sure the commuters for Norco will feel the same. I will be sad to leave the Park, because I have given a lot of blood, sweat and tears to the place. I care about Walt's Park greatly, but the current management is making it too difficult. Don't put a time clock at KCML and don't pay me for the time. The repeated theme in the "Presenteeism" meeting was that the policies would make all procedures consistent at the Park. My solution, is one of making things totally consistent. Make all management park at KCML and ride the shuttle. While we are at it. Make it necessary for them to scan in on time. (They are not required to do so) They will find it is more difficult than just walking the few steps from TDA structure. This is exactly why Walt never wanted an office suite outside of the park. I wouldn't have a problem with the policies if we all were required to follow them.

It sort of already works that way, since the clock-in time is technically when you first punch in to CDS. If I clocked in at the gate at a half hour ‘til my shift starts, my time still starts when the shift begins at the attraction. If I clock-in at the gate at 12PM for a 12PM shift and showed up at the attraction at 12:10, I am still late because I’m not at the attraction.

<<if someone travels from Norco to DL for work and is NOT a manager or above needs to seriously reconcider their employement focus.>>

When you say reconsider their employment focus, are you presuming to know their current employment focus? I commuted from Redlands to DL as an RO. I was a student at UCR at the time and figured it would be my last opportunity to work there before my professional career began. I have absolutely no regrets. I didn’t need to “reconsider†anything. I know many other CMs who drove in from far locations: many from Riverside, Fontana, Lake Elsinore, Temecula, San Bernardino, Yucaipa, Santa Monica, even one from Hesperia—mostly students—and this is only from Tomorrowland. We enjoyed working there, it worked with our school schedules, and paid better than most non-professional and flexible position.

And, no, I’ve never heard anyone complain to Disney about the commute or want compensation for it. If you weren’t content with having to commute, move or apply in the first place. I had been commuting to Orange County for years so I was used to it.

Yeah it really is not that simple, bud.

It would Be Like having an office on top of a 100 story building, and sometimes the elevator would go fast, sometimes it would go slow and sometimes it would crawl, and on the days you are running behind it is always crawling.

And at a desk job your boss isn't going to fire you if you are literally 1 minute late a few times a month.

Now looking back is it really fair to Add extra time on your comute when the elevator/shuttle is so unpredictable?
At least at a desk job you can start your work and hopefully get off early.
Like most things, you really don't understand things like this unless you are a castmember.

Not everyone uses CDS. I believe that's only an Attractions thing (and I hope it stays that way!)

As a Cast Member, I disagree with you. Employment is voluntary. You have the option of remaining with the Company or separating. That's your business. I leave an hour before my shift. My dad leaves an hour and a half before his start time because he knows he is going to have to battle Los Angeles traffic, find a parking space, cross two major streets in a very busy section of L.A., check in at security, and then take an elevator several stories and be at his cubicle at the time he starts.

It's a universal expectation - being at your location at your scheduled start time, whether Disneyland, La Mirada Theatre, Farmer's Insurance, etc. Commute time is a given, no matter where you work. It's not just Disneyland employees who have to deal with a commute.

And no, on paper, it doesn't seem it will be adding time to the commute. For one they plan on adding more clocks around the Resort making them at least 5 minutes away from any Cast Member's location. I also think it's the illusion of more time wasted, since you'll be clocking within the 5 minutes before a shift instead of arriving an hour early and just clocking in.

Really? I thought foods and stores did. Interesting.

Anyhow, the point remains, it was the time you arrived at the attraction, not at Harbor Point or TDA, which indicated whether you were late or not.

    SpoonCM:

When did they start new CDS procedures?

No, but in a retail store or a call center they might. And my employer can be just as unforgiving as Disney if the bus I take to work is late.

Sadly, getting angry at Disney because they treat their employees in the same unfair manner as other employers isn't going to solve the underlying problems, which have more to do with the lack of dignity afforded to labor in a capitalist economy than with any one corporation's policies.

...and if I say any more I'll land this topic in WE.

Interesting. So, will this affect breaks and lunches as well? I know many large attractions had issues with this being that when CDS bumps out a CM, it could take a good deal of time to find him/her, especially if rotations had just gone out or are a mess. Either the LD has to fix the times or you get a short break/lunch. Clocking in and out for lunch/breaks would help a great deal to this regard.

Aaehhh…Foods has always been an irritable bunch anyway. ;-)

So basically, you clock in within the 5 minutes before your shift at the designated clock for your location. Clock out for lunch at any clock. And EXACTLY 30 minutes later, or however long your lunch is, clock back in at any clock. Then at the end your shift, clock out within the 5 minutes after the shift ends at the designated clock for your location. That's how it was explained to me.

How you fit walking time into that is beyond me...
