I saw some preview pages of the new GN but it didn't look so good. Should I give it a go?

    So obviously it isn't "BANNED".

Long story short. Larry Miller chose not to show this film because of PR reasons. The theater shows much more graphic movies, but pulls the plug on more controversial stuff. His option. There are plenty of other theaters where one can find the film.

Sidebar, When Brokeback Mountian came out I had to cover a local theater chain that didn't show it because of its controversial nature. So for the live shot, I put the reporter right in front of the "Now Showing: RENT" Poster outside.

No, it was not obvious---it could have been business concerns, moral concerns, both or neither.

There was nothing very controversial about Brokeback Mt. It's as good as any other love story. Most of the people who were against it had NEVER seen it and were judging a book by it's cover.
