Wedding planning is kinda annoying. I have no idea where to start. We are still trying to plan something for the end of summer, apparently this is short notice but we have a hard time planning for next week never mind something that is still months away. We want to do something unique(ish), likely outside and not to far away (Victoria BC) small and not too frou frou. Any ideas ?

I took the first step yesterday and bought a dress. It is pale blue and (I think) very Cinderellay. Here are a few pictures http://picasaweb.google.com/mi
    ckeymeg/Dress?authkey=fDgPyQJhIkM
It is much more formal and big and poufy than I thought I would like, but I tried it on and really did like the Cinderellaness of it. I have only worn a formal dress once in my life, for high school prom, and then I was wearing running shoes and Mickey Mouse ears too. So I have to get over the awkward strangeness of a big dress. I had my two best friends come with me as well as my Mum and sister to help with the moral support required to get me into a dress at all =)

So I have officially taken the first planning step... I have no idea what to do next. Any step by step guide to wedding planning we have looked at starts a ridiculous year ahead of time and spends all its time talking about itty bitty flowers and frou that really doesn't interest us. hmmm....

I have the option of cutting it off and just having a round floor length thing or bunching it up to hang behind me. Hopefully that makes sense as I don't remember the technical terms they used to say the same thing =) what do you think ? cut or bunch ?

Have you bought any bridal magazines, I found that they really helped because they give you a calender of when stuff should be done and from that you can alter it to adjust to your schedule but it also helps you with all the stuff you don't know about planning a wedding.

good luck to you and keep us posted.

(We got married in a wedding chapel in Las Vegas so we wanted to have the reception somewhere else). Once those 2 big things were booked, I then did my cake, dress, flowers and I wish I would have done a photographer. Things just seemed to fall into place after that.

I also went to a bridal show which is where I found my florist and she gave me a great deal on flowers because I used her from the show.

If you need help, even though I am a long way away, maybe I could help guide you. If so, just drop me a note, email is in profile.

Hang in there, it will be ok.

Definitely location is the first priority though...

Same goes for me as nevadarebel, if there's anything I can do to help drop me a line :)

There are no wedding fairs coming up here that I am aware of. I will keep my ears open though.

I really value your suggestions and will be sure to let everyone know when we have picked a place.

You can also register for gifts with them and create your own wedding website with important information especially if you have out of town guests. Also, if you do have out of town guests, you should start looking at hotels to see if you can get a block of rooms at a decent price for them to book themselves. Most places will let you get a block and then you let your guests know to use your name or the grooms name to get the discount.

It worked really well for me, it was basically a button hidden underneath and a small loop to hook on it...

I agree with smedley and say go with the bustling. I ended up going with a detachable train myself and it worked out really well. I was so happy to walk down the aisle with a flowing train and take lots of pretty pictures with my beautiful train - and then unhinge it and let my freak flag fly at our reception! LOL! (Just kidding. I'm actually very mild mannered and we had a rather reserved reception.)

Personally, I love all the planning but I just didn't have time to do it with all the other stuff going on in our lives at the time. I think nevadarebel has given you some good advice there on how to use those checklists and magazines and other things to your advantage without letting the wedding planning overwhelm you.

Good luck sweetie! We're happy to be your sounding board when you need.
