I don't think it would be the end of the world as we know it, but then I never do. Remember though that proposed design has NOTHING to do with what actually gets built. The various designs proposed for the WTC site certainly show that!

and I agree, while not the end of the world, also not what I was expecting..and the whole discussion about taxing existing facilities comes into play ( like Beach Club)- and in retrospect I do hope that they put some restaurants in here or else getting Chef Mickey or Cali Grill advance seating will be much more difficult

We're getting close to the "old is new" point with late 60's/early 70's architecture, so it will be in style in a few years. The plans for the new tower look really modern now, but even in five years they will look out of date. If they built something that matched the style of the original building, it would look better as the styles would match eachother and it would age better, since it could go for the retro look. I must say that I am less than impressed with the design of the new building.

Spirit, let me right here say that you were right and I was wrong. I think the direction they could be going under this proposal makes more sense for DVC, but I think it is UGLY and completely violates a number of design points laid out by Hench & Co.

I too believed the whole "wetlands" angle and didn't think the conversion would be on the scale of a building that under this proposal would loom over the existing tower.

But for DVC it makes sense. They knew demand would be out-of-control for a contemp DVC addon and they are responding to it.

or else? In my eyes that has already happened, especially Chef Mickey's.

I wouldn't be shocked to see $100 a point and to see the charts require the most points out of any other resort. It will be a total feeding frenzy when the 7 month window activates.

This is what happened. Architect firm, which also designed the Contemp. Convention Center add-on (which some of us really don't like), innocently had the project they had designed placed on its website.

It may have been out there for days or even weeks. But as soon as it hit Mouseplanet.com and was discussed here on LP.com, whoever monitors this site for Disney immediately saw it first thing this morning and contacted Disney Legal, which immediately contacted said design firm. And the plans disappeared.

So, yeah, please tell me how 'insignificant' sites like this are to TWDC.

As to the plans, which you can bet will be announced at the fall press whoring party, I can't saw anything beyond what I have. It looks terrible (and it will take up the Tennis Center area as well) and it will tax the current resort and its amenities immensly. It's all about the money and I so can wait to hear all the DVCers who buy in tell me how they 'own at the Contemporary.'

Way to go Al Weiss. Now go work shilling timeshares for Fairfield because it's obvious you have no clue what WDW should be about!

I am so not happy with the current trends emerging. Expensive princess makeovers replacing theatrical productions INSIDE the berm... WDW ticket media increase TWICE in one year... food prices outta control in both WDW and DL... and DVC timeshare expansions on existing resorts, further stretching food, merch, and recreational availability.

    ENOUGH!

The nickel-and-diming of the guest, which began with the proliferation of ODV carts about a decade ago, was pretty much under the radar of consciousness. Now... it's totally in your face. There's no escaping it. IT IS E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E!! And I'm truly tired of it.

This is why my Disney theme park vacations continue to shrink in duration. I'm pretty much down to two or three days, tops. It's just too draining, on both my psyche and especially my wallet.

I understand that. Most of my park time at WDW is now spent at DAK and Epcot (still my fave, despite Emmer, Kalogridis, Holz and Rex's best efforts to destroy the place to increase their own careers). The MK can often just be so depresssing and Disney-MGM always left me cold, the BAH was just the final straw.

As to the proliferation of every money-making gimmick Disney can think of, all I can say is thank the consultants, first and foremost. They've gotten rich by destroying the magic.
