I'm guessing from it's size that the new building would at least have a counter dining like the other resorts. I can't imagine all those people now crowding into the already overcrowded counter dining area on the Contemporary ground floor. (Next to the game room) One more observation -- from it's placement I can only imagine that rooftop parties would be the THE THING to do to watch the MK fireworks at night. They would be even more up close and personal than the Contemporary rooftop.

I'm guessing round and atrium.

Now the Cali Grill worry warts...please...do you really think there isn't going to be some jam up incredible dining built into this new Contempo to help with the new demand for dining? Come on people, the chance at grabbing more dining dollars alone..... bah! Think about the boardwalk and the dining that is there. It's going to be O.K. Now, everyone, take a deeeeep breath, let it out slow... ahhhhh there you go, it will be juuuuust fine.

But it was FAR MORE impressive than this "picture" we have here. In fact I think this picture is misleading. I will however agree that I'll miss the Contemporary being the ONLY tower over there. About 6 years ago we were booked at the Coronado. When we walked the 5 miles to our room and went in, there was a couple laying on the bed watching TV, somewhat scantily clad, the guy smoking a cigarette, in our non smoking room. <--- take it for what its worth. My wife was apalled and I was very apologetic as we backed out. I jogged the 8 miles back to the front desk while my wife and then 2 kids waited with our luggage outside of the bldg. Finally I returned to my family, telling them that there were no rooms to be had, that they had over booked us, but that they were going to give us a room at the Contemporary. My wife was about to kill me. Anyway we reloaded the UAB and went over to Contemporary. Upon check in the front desk was very apologetic and gave us our key, pointed us toward the elevators and wished us well. I thought there must be a mistake. The elevator? This means we must be in the tower. Well...maybe this is going to be ok. We got on the elevator. I recalled the nice lady informing me that we wouldn't be disappointed. Long story short, we were on the 14th floor on the front corner overlooking the MK. It was a home run. I have never been so happy to have walked all over the Coronado, to have been assigned a room with people in it, and to have had to get turfed to another hotel in my life. And wow, we had only 2 kids back then...those were the good ol days.

Darn near catch people doing the nasty AND getting a room in the Contemporary Tower. No wonder you have so many kids... you knock it out of the park EVERY time!!

With the size of this building I wouldn't be surprised if it had both a counter service, and a sit down resturaunt. Possibly another high-end resturarunt, a bar, and maybe a few shops.

Maybe some folks are right when they say that the renderings being posted on websites are the "final" design, but I'm willing to bet it's pretty darn close. What happened to the days when Disney was commissioning great works of architecture that stood out from the crowd. The basic form of the proposed DVC tower complements some of the features of the original Contemporary structure, but it doesn't complement the theme of that hotel. The Contemporary Resort is more than just a high rise hotel tower, it's a statement about the future. Any additions to that hotel should have a design that makes us think of tomorrow, not the standard hotel high rise that you can find on any resort beach around the world. I'm sure there are those that would argue the Contemporary has long outlived any notion that it is a vision of the future, but I have to say that it is still a unique icon of WDW that doesn't resemble too many current-day hotels that I've visited anywhere. I'm fine with a large scale addition to the Contemporary. I'm fine with DVC. Let's just make it large scale in terms of the imaginative effort that goes into its design as well. So far, it looks like Disney may have squandered the opportunity to do something really fantastic here.
