Look, I'm not some rich snob who can only stand the Grand Californian, if that. My family works hard to save all year so we can make our annual sojourn. I've never stayed at GCH. I stayed on-site at Paradise Pier for the first time a few months ago. Every other time, I've stayed at Hojos. It's an ok hotel. I haven't minded because most of my trip is spent in the park. But I do hate that walk from Hojos. It has nothing to do with snobbery and no paper bag will be necessary. It has more to do with the urban sprawl Dave talked about. After staying on-site, I've determined its what I want in my vacation. But by all means, make yourself feel better by making personal comments about people who disagree with you.

If you trust you DVC friend that is a great deal especially since they are so new.

I get the feeling that some of you are not so much interested in convenience and ambiance as status.
Originally Posted By Mr X ***Regarding post 81, you guys came off as arrogant snobs, plain and simple.*** I must have been reading a different thread. I detected no arrogant snobbery whatsoever. And yes, the pics I saw of HoJo's WERE tacky (from their very own website). Not saying I wouldn't stay there. Not even saying I wouldn't enjoy staying there. But it's no uber-classy place, to say the least. Hell, some Disney hotels are also tacky (All-Stars for sure, but even some of the others are a bit over the edge (and dated to boot!) as far as classy design is concerned...looking at you Contemporary Resort!). ***Bringing that point to attention most certainly made me feel better.*** We live to serve.
Originally Posted By Mr X ***please refrain from insulting those who dont by calling their choices tacky*** See, this is where you lose me. First of all, it was Darkbeer and others chiming in here to talk about what a waste of money GC was and how utterly FANTASTIC HoJo's is in comparison. Finally, a few people got real about the fact that the place IS a discount hotel (that's just a fact). But I think you're taking it personally. Nobody, I mean NOBODY on this thread accused anyone of having poor taste just for liking the HoJo's. Hell, I said a couple times I'd happily stay there. But let's call a spade a spade. You can stay at a tacky place for whatever reasons (it's convenient, it's reasonably priced, it's fun, it's relaxing etc, etc), and need not feel defensive as though people are attacking YOU personally just because they're critiquing the place! Oh, and by the way, there are PLENTY of people out there (some of them snobs, sure...but not ALL of them) who think ALL the Disney hotels are tacky. And that all of Disney is tacky. Or kitchy. Or whatever. Would I get pissed about their opinion and take it personally? Certainly not. They probably have a valid point! Doesn't matter, cause I still love Disney parks. And Disney hotels (except All-Star...ugh!).

I posted my thoughts and opinions... so be it!
Originally Posted By Jenn31 "I get the feeling that some of you are not so much interested in convenience and ambiance as status" What an awful thing to say! First of all GCH is not a "status" symbol Second of all, not one of the posts on this thread has given me the slightest inclination that anyone here beleives that GCH is the place to stay because of status. Quite the contrary, I found that almost everyone who posted truly enjoy the GCH because of ambience, ammenities, etc. GCH is a Disney hotel not some posh digs in beverly hills, GHEESH, HONESTLY! The entire point of me posting this thread was to get personal experiences from people who have stayed there, to let me know why they stay and what they love about this particular disney property. I don't know how it turned into a game of my hotel's better than your hotel. To each his own. Hotels are a personal choice, likes, dislikes, cost, etc. If you dislike GCH that much or the "snobs" that stay there why bother posting on a thread geared toward GCH?

Seriously, everytime. Jenn, please just continue with your excitement and planning and ask any questions you may have. We stayed in a one bedroom DVC but I remember what the studio looked like from the tour. Seriously, especially with your little one, you will be happy in the DVC Villa. Our DD and her family were staying offsite at the same time and were practically drooling at the convenience of the Villa. They used our Villa for their afternoon breaks

But then, when others say "hang on a sec, it's not as great as all THAT" suddenly people get offended? Well, I suppose then the "snobs" should be rightly offended at the trashing of THEIR choice in hotels as well, no? Who here has taken Darkbeer or anyone else to task for bashing the Grand Californian? But that's the whole point, they don't deserve to be bashed for their opinion. It's just their opinion. <---thinks Rainforest Cafe is tacky and lame, yet doesn't hold any negative opinions towards those folks who enjoy the place

Did I pick on GCH's "Sleeping Bag" policy... YES, but it is a TRUE clear statement for most rooms, Disney will ONLY give you a sleeping bag, and not a rollaway... http://www.everything.com/Choo...n-Hotel/ >>
