It's about the same as riding the Main Street Trolleys...you don't really NEED to ride them, they don't go far, but it's about the entertainment value. Yeah, the DCA lagoon ain't so glamorous, but if you're on a nicely themed boat out on water, it's still somewhat entertaining...especially if they add scenes, or possibly a small show building somewhere. Who knows?

In defense of the Discovery River Boats, they were only supposed to be a transportation system around the park - like the boats on the World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT. But because of the low attraction count at AK when it opened, they ended up with long lines because they were listed as an attraction - which they clearly were not. And so, people were complaining about the ride because they had waited so long for something that wasn't meant to be an attraction at all. Hopefully, once the attraction count at AK reaches high enough levels, they'll bring back the boats. I'd love to take a relaxing ride around the Discovery River again -- the views of the park were just beautiful.

I also hope at some point the boats go back into service once AK has a larger attraction roster. It would add more kinetic energy to the waters there.

It could be a simple cave like in PotC but have scenes of couples from Disney movies (Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, etc) and Mickey and Minnie at the end. The scenes could even be on stain glass windows like the Sleeping Beauty attraction in SB castle, or to be innovative have the scenes be projected and have movement in the pictures some how. And only part of the ride would be out on the Paradise Bay. And of course it would have to be close for the night show, but so are Mark twain, Columbia, TSI and Toontown.

Throw in the well-speaking Donald imposter for good measure. The point is that whallla, there is an attraction that would fit, please, and use characters in a fresh, clever way.

People have done it on Disney dark rides for 50 years anyway. My armchair imagineering has them building a two-level structure behind Screamin' (where the parade warehouse was); bottom level would be this boat-based Tunnel of Love, the top level would be another, faster-moving dark ride. Using the space effectively, and putting three dark rides (when you count Midway Mania) in the Pier, which is just what it needs.
