And what public monies are they taking? I am genuinely interested.

In her book, Coulter writes that ever since Rush Limbaugh and Fox News Channel broke the monopoly on the news and the floodgates opened, the leftist media and the Democrats have been trying "to re-create a world where they can hurl slander and treason without anyone arguing back –- they needed a doctrine of infallibility†that would prevent critics from answering back, leaving their fallacious doctrines unchallenged. "They would choose only messengers whom we’re not allowed to reply to,†she writes. "That’s why all Democratic spokesmen these days are sobbing hysterical women. You can’t respond to them because that would be questioning the authenticity of their suffering.†Among them, Coulter writes, are "people with "absolute moral authority†in the words of Maureen Dowd describing Cindy Sheehan -- Democrats with a dead husband, a dead child, a wife who works at the CIA, a war record, a terminal illness or as a last resort being on a first-name basis with Nelson Mandela.†And so we get the likes of the "Jersey Girls" exploiting the deaths of their husbands on 9/11, Sheehan exploiting the death in Iraq of her son to attack President Bush, Joe Wilson, Rep. John Murtha and other untouchables. To challenge their assertions is blasphemy and "over the line.†And an assault on the "sacred.†In her book Coulter writes of all of the above unchallengeable messengers, but the liberals in the media have focused on one group -– the Jersey Girls -– four New Jersey 9/11 windows who have blatantly exploited the deaths of their husbands exactly as Sheehan has exploited the heroic death of her son -– to castigate the president and his administration, and become lionized millionaires in the process. And, just as Coulter has written, she has been lambasted by the media and such liberal Democrats as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, for daring to attack their untouchable spokeswomen. The Jersey Girls engaged in out-of-bounds grandstanding, as did Cindy Sheehan. By contrast, Debra Burlingame, the sister of the pilot of the Pentagon plane, has been a prominent spokesperson defending the President, but NOT ONCE has Debra Burligame said anything that is the counterpart to the Jersey Girls shameful conduct. Debra Burlingame does not say Bill Clinton is more to blame for her brother's death than Al Qaeda. Yet the media doesn't make Debra Burlingame, a Bush supporter representative of what 9/11 family members think. The Jersey Girls are devoid of class, and Ann Coulter merely used the gift of satire to point out a blunt truth about the Jersey Girls and Cindy Sheehan.

Originally Posted By Eric Paddon Ann isn't resorting to "their" behavior. She's using the gift of satire to make a point how the Left immunizes their outrageous spokespeople from criticism by wrapping themselves up in their victimhood status (or in the case of John Murtha and Max Cleland, wrapping themselves up in past military service to exempt their present-day political statements from criticism), and how this is contemptible conduct designed to intimidate conservatives from standing up for their own principles. So in short, Ann wouldn't have had to say a thing about the Jersey Girls if the Left were open to an honest debate on issues in the first place.
Originally Posted By Dabob2 That newsmax piece actually only proved itself wrong. How has Coulter not been "allowed" to criticize/attack these women? She has. The best that piece can say is that liberals are now "lambasting" Coulter. But if Coulter is free to criticize people, why shouldn't liberals be free to criticize her? And, of course, what they (and a good number of conservatives) are lambasting is not what she said, but how she said it. If she had criticized the Jersey girls in a non-vicious way (as others have done, by the way), no one would have batted an eye. Which is ultimately the point. Coulter wants lots and lots of batted eyes. Batted eyes sell books. She pretends to be outraged by the reaction to her statements, but in reality she's saying "Please don't throw me into that briar patch!"
Originally Posted By SingleParkPassholder "Ann isn't resorting to "their" behavior. She's using the gift of satire " You're right. She's not resorting to "their" behavior. She's resorting to the most tasteless, classless, lowest form of behavior possible by another human being. Calling this "satire" is the most desperate attempt yet at justifying her behavior. You'll notice no one is laughing.
Originally Posted By Eric Paddon "How has Coulter not been "allowed" to criticize/attack these women? She has." But it seems that unlike favorite left-wing "satirists", Coulter alone should be singled out to a torrent of hate-filled invective that includes desires for her demise (expressed by people less desirous of having seen Zarqawi assume room temperature) and calls for censorship and book burning, as in the case of two NJ assemblymen. The effort is there to subject Ann to a stigmitization she does not deserve, especially when the Al Frankens, Michael Moores etc. are given free passes and the Matt Lauers and David Lettermans just yuck it up when they engage in their own "satire" to make a false point (unlike Ann, who uses satire to make a true point). "She's resorting to the most tasteless, classless, lowest form of behavior possible by another human being." Sorry, but I think those who fly planes into buildings (the people the Jersey Girls like to let off the hook so they can bash the President) would better fit that standard.
