I'm also disappointed with Hollywood, most plots are rehashes of "old" sci fi episodes, books, movies. I just don't understand why nothing "original" is coming out of Hollywood these days. No wonder zombies are more popular than ever.

He wanted to see 'Cowboys & Aliens' last weekend...me, not so much.

Details I liked: -The dirty exhaust coming out of the alien planes. -The kid becoming a "man". -The different fighting factions each coming together and yet being able to use their own fighting strategies -The cool Bat-Wing saloon doors -Craig's multi layerd character -Ford's growth -The premise of the aliens needing gold -Wilde's chasing the aliens through the cosmos -The film's pace -The build up to encountering the aliens -Great climax Dislikes - -Could have been a bit more campy - - - -

Oh and I loved the soundtrack. The Western film genre does not bring in huge numbers. Those projects seem to be made more for nostalgia's sake as any other reason.

Also, in some ways the story got very similar to Super 8 - in a bad way. The monsters are terrorizing a town, snatching up beloved characters, and then hanging them in suspended animation in a cave somewhere, just waiting to be rescued by our heroes - for days on end. When the heroes finally arrive, a quick slap on the cheek and they're good as new and ready to flee for their lives. Why do the monsters go to the enormous trouble of attacking and grabbing these people and hauling them away to their secret lair? And why keep doing it again and again? Never explained. And why do they want these live humans hanging around? To perform atrocities on them, but only a few people, and only now and then. It was a rather obvious plot device to have cool scenes of aliens attacking cowboys. The aliens have no motive for what they do, but it creates motive for what the townsfolk do - go out and save their people. I didn't dislike this one as much as Super 8, because it was mostly fun to watch and had actors I like, but I do want movies to make some kind of sense - even monster movies.

THAT MADE NO SENSE Oh, and I wasn't at *all* surprised by the moment with Harrison Ford and the Native American - I saw that coming from about five MILLION miles away. I hate predictable junk like that!
