There's a magazine article posted at cartoonbrew.com in which Takamoto talks about that. With the shorts department shutting down, and with Disney Feature Animation chock full of brilliant animators who weren't going anywhere for a very long time, there was zero chance for upward mobility at Disney. Just wasn't gonna happen. So a lot of talented animators headed for greener pastures at the studio that was growing: Hanna Barbera.
