More that he created the company and characters. Disney has given Legend awards to other people who did significant things at companies that were later acquired by Disney (Barbara Walters for her work at ABC in the 70's comes to mind), so it only make sense that Henson should get one as well. True, his creations have done little while under the Disney label, but the work he did to create them shouldn't be discounted because of how they're currently viewed. In the big picture, he did a lot for part of the current Walt Disney Company, so it's fitting that he's honored for it.

I also agree aobut the event being whelming (not overwhelming, not underwhelming, just whelming). I think that's a different discussion for a different thread, but I feel like I got my fill after only one day (today), and have little interest in thinking about another Expo right now.

Boy does this hit the nail on the head on what is wrong with Walt Disney Imagineering, Disneyland, WDW and all the hard core fans.

    You know what?

If a substantial project had been announced for a WDW park (much less a couple of parks), I doubt anyone would be commenting on the deficiency of the execs' public-speaking abilities or the Imagineers' attire.

But, you see, Disney threw a big party and forgot to provide any entertainment. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

I realize they trotted out costume characters to celebrate the occasion. Very exciting.

That was my thought as well!

While I am quite critical of the modern WDC, that is just clutching at straws and seems to be reaching to find fault.

Also, I want HMB to quantify what of Vaughan is hot.

    He said, "Bruce, your hot,"

    Your hot what?

    Unless he meant, "you're hot"?

Believe me, there are a couple of grown adult men here that, for THEM, this would be ENOUGH!

Never will understand the appeal of bored Anaheim teens dressed as cartoon characters that make some forty year old men act like five year old children.

A bit strange, if you ask me!

And one doesn't need to go to a Disney Park to see it. Why does EVERYTHING have to be Disney?

...he said on a Disney board.

(But he still has a point... a hobby is a hobby, a obsession is a whole other matter.)

Why is he still speaking in 3rd person? He feels like the Witches of Morva.

    Oh, I see.

You guys are looking for something to whine about. The only thing you could resonably complain about this presentation for is the lack of announcemnts. So, now you grasp at straws to tear the whole presentation down.

I had no faith in them prior to D23, I expected to have no faith in them after D23, and here I am now with no faith in them.

So not really a biggie. Oh, and I said the dwarf coaster would only have one real show scene over two months ago, right here on this very forum. For some reason no one latched on to that one. Owell, again, no whinning, not a biggie. Par for the course as far as I am concerned for WDW.

On another thread there's a video of what it's supposed to be like. To me it's very disappointing. Makes a cauldron girl wonder why they even bothered to half-theme it to Snow White's dwarves. They really only make cameo appearances. I'd rather have them keep the current Snow White dark ride if that's all they're going to do.

Seriously, though, I was able to talk briefly with Tom Staggs on Thursday evening. I asked if there would be any surprises in the Parks and Resort presentation. He was quite forthright, and said not really. He pointed out that right now, there are more ongoing projects than at any other time in WDI history. (DCA, FLE, Shanghai, and the DCL Fantasy head the list.)

That aside, we did get a few new things in the presentation. The Fantasy Faire at Disneyland had been nothing more than a long dead rumor. The details on Shangai's castle was news to anyone I know. We also got definitive images and details on the Dwarf coaster.

That anyone doesn't like what was announced is one thing. But the idea that there was nothing to the presentation is just not true.

Just confirms that Parks and Resorts expanded too much and too quickly over the past 15 years. It says volumes that the busiest period in WDI history sees three WDW parks being totally neglected.
