People keep saying this, yet TWDC (and Iger specifically) seem to keep refuting it. If it truly doesn't matter what it's based on, why can't we get something that actually fits DAK, and (heaven forbid) isn't based on a movie? I fully believe that people will enjoy a theme park environment regardless of its roots, but for whatever reason, the powers that be believe otherwise. And since they know much more about the theme park industry than we do, I'm inclined to think that there must be a reason that they disagree

    >>"To me, it's a huge risk to build an expansion like this on a film franchise that has such a lukewarm reception."

Massive box office, positive reviews and a boatload of Oscar nominations (including Best Picture). Lukewarm.<<

I didn't mean that the inital reception was lukewarm, but the long-lasting impacts on most people haven't been that deep. There was a flurry of excitement at first, but after the dust settled there was almost no buzz. I don't see kids playing with Avatar toys, asking for video games, or watching the film over and over; adults for the most part seem to have forgotten about it as well.

The film simply isn't as 'beloved' as most films that are the basis for attractions. Yes, there are always examples to refute this (Mr Toad), but for the most part attractions tend to be based on things that can truly transcend generations and time. I fear that Avatar will feel as awkward and out of place as the Alien segment on The Great Movie Ride (but hey, at least they already have the incredibly lifelike Sigourney Weaver AA ready to go!)

Plenty of films do well financially, with reviews, and in award nominations, but that doesn't mean that they would make a good theme park attraction/land. The ones that immediately pop into my mind are Schindler's List and Lincoln, both of which are great movies (which I'm not sure can be said about Avatar) that would make for a pretty crummy in-park experience

I think that it should be "even though YOU may not have liked it millions of other people SAW IT"

Yes the film sold tickets. I saw it and felt meh. Others here who have been panning it also saw it. Just because a lot of people saw the film (mostly pulled in by the hype) doesn't mean is was enough of a critical success to base a park land on.

I'm going to be somewhat bold and say that there won't be any discussions of the NextGen project, including but not limited to: implementation date, description of who gets to use it (resort guests vs DVC/APs vs others), or the number of FPs per day.

While it may seem not-so-bold to predict, keep in mind that the NextGen system was 'almost ready' to roll out to the public (just like it is now) around the time of the last D23 Expo, 2 years ago. Given that they're expecting people to incorporate it into their vacation planning regimen, they really should give ample warning before its implementation, so that everything can be successfully worked in

I would have hoped that it's something about Episode VII, but one of the boxes in the images says Walt Disney Imagineering.

I liked that one of the boxes says "Speculation beyond imagination", leaving us to speculate about its meaning. The photo right after that had the name of the cantina band, so perhaps we'll finally get the Mos Eisely Cantina that everybody's been dying to see for decades

I'm also interested in the source of the photos, because the Expo doesn't open for a few more hours, and I'm pretty sure they do a good job of keeping people from wandering in

Also, the Hatbox Ghost will be making an appearance. It looks like it's mostly just a little spot to demonstrate how they program AAs, but let the speculation begin!

There have been rumours that DLP might get such a cantina and DLP does serve alcohol in both parks.

Honestly I don't get that rule. Just because Walt Disney said so 50 years ago, Disney isn't still serving alcohol in the Magic Kingdom parks. I don't need alcohol at counter restaurants, but I just can't imagine having dinner at a fancy sit down restaurant and drinking coke. A fancy meal requires wine.

I guess DLP is the only resort where alcohol is offered in both parks and in my seven visits, I have never encountered any bad behaviour because of alcohol.

I found it very interesting that when we have been to sit down restaurants in the US, we didn't get wine for dinner, but it was possible to order a glass of wine afterwards at the bar.

Dagobert in most restaurants in the U.S and Canada you are able to order almost any kind of alcohol with your meal.

I know, but two restaurants didn't. Maybe there was a problem with the licence. And the restaurants weren't that fancy. One was an Italian restaurant and the other one served burgers.

Even our favourite fast food restaurant, Chipotle, offered Corona. What's better than having tacos or a burrito with an icecold Corona ;-).
