(probably because Lucas brought Steven Spielberg in to help out with the production)

I do agree they need to get something on the drawing board park wise though to build interest before 2015 movie-- it they can coordinate the two- and build a immersing area like say Mos Eisley etc- to compete with HP - it will get very interesting- and we all win

This brings up the question: Would Disney use the power of Pixar to model characters of the next trilogy? Would the director prefer to model a young Han, a young Leia, and young Luke rather than film a live Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill (since they're old now)?

Have you seen the move recent seasons?

Season 1 and 2 were a bit jarring in this regard, but as the series has progressed the animation has gotten stronger.

My theory is that they will set events 20 or so years after the events of Return of the Jedi. I sorely doubt many of the original actors will return to their roles (aside from Anthony Daniels, C3PO, and possibly Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca).

    Your response probably isn't representative.

"But isn't Walt Disney World enough of a brand already on it's own? Do they really need a movie franchise to help convince guests to come down? Can't they just show the new attraction, along with all of Disney World's other offerings, in commercials?"

    No.

"Can't agree with that Hans. Today franchises in theme parks are more valuable than the experience. Marketing needs something to push out there and the success of Cars Land and HP means it is a lot easier to market those experiences to guests. It is far harder to do that. It is far easier to make a connection with guests when it is a recognizable brand."

I still think Hans' point is valid. The franchise's marketability is important in the short term. But after that, the attraction quality will be very important.

Of course, a franchise's longevity will impact the decisions on attractions in the medium to long term future, so the question of a franchise's long term viability are very valid.

If I had to bet, I'd bet on Star Wars winning the longevity war. It's proven itself across decades. It's got a broader and richer universe. And while JK might change her mind, the HP universe isn't very active creatively going forward (and I'm a big HP fan).

While I admire her for finishing it and letting it stay finished, not keeping things going creatively will hurt its longevity (something like Oz is the exception, not the rule).
