Instead, when we go to the primary election to vote, we specify which party's primary ballot we which to cast when we get there. That decision is a matter of public record, so various parties might draw a conclusion based on which primary ballot a particular voter chooses to cast, but that voter is still not a "registered" anything. Separate from the ballot process, voters (and non-voters for that matter) can choose to be dues-paying members of any party, of several parties, or of no party.

It's even more astounding when you consider that someone from these quarters that claims to have superior knowledge of what it means to be Texan almost certainly casts the "Librul" ballot, whereas I as a transplant vote the real "Texan" ballot - oh the irony!

Be careful what you wish for. There has been talk that the Tea Party may morph into a viable national third party. Since they have a growing following and have yet to endorse any politicians or political party, the group could very well succeed in becoming a serious political force. Take a look at this:

    <a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/02/tea-party-seeks-to-become-a-political-party-in-connecticut/35349/" target="_blank">http://www.theatlantic.com/pol...t/35349/</a>

My guess is that many of the younger Tea Party folk are unemployed as a result of the economic crisis. The group will probably lose a lot of it's followers and some steam once unemployment begins to subside.
