Totally true. Look at Disney World. The Magic Kingdom has a very limited offering of attractions as compared to DL and has three other theme parks right there and it is always the most visited of the four.

“It’s about changing guests’ behavior when it comes to the parks,” said George Kalogridis, president of the Disneyland Resort. “Whereas now they park-hop between the Disneyland theme park and Disney’s California Adventure park — we want them to spend two full days at the resort, one at each park.”

I'm not sure DCA 2.0 can achieve that goal for the DLR. It certainly will do a better job at holding guest's interests longer than ever before. Unless Disney eliminates park hopping for everyone, including AP's.

In that horror scenario, nobody would dare step into DCA. I don't see Disney ever pulling that card though.

And people are so used to it, it would be a major PR blunder to mess with it.

Unless they're concerned about overcrowding or guest flow, I don't see what it matters to them which park people are buying their dinner in, etc. - the main goal is to increase attendance at the resort as a whole, and increase out-of-town guest stays. All that is doable without messing with hopping.

Disney won't say anything but "Summer 2012", and so far no other major Internet resource has claimed any date or said anything that Al Lutz didn't already say.

So you'll need to decide who you want to believe, or listen to.

In addition to discussing the company's quarterly earnings, Iger also announced that Cars Land at Disney California Adventure will open in June. It had previously been announced that the new area would open in the summer, but no more specifics had been released. Fans are still waiting for a specific opening date, but at least this should allow them to get a better idea for planning their summer vacations."

Now this is the way you launch a Disney theme park. I can't help but be fascinated and impressed by the dramatic improvement in the way that DCA 2.0 is being marketed over the initial opening back in 2001. The single biggest fail at DCA was the awkward way that the place was first hyped and launched to the public. Contrasting Disney's excellent DCA expansion promotion program today with the period leading up to the February 2001 opening illustrates just how crappy the first marketing push for the park really was.
