Now granted, most of that was addition, and they were inventing the whole theme park idea as they went along. But there were complete miscues that disappeared (Mickey Mouse Circus, Holidayland, much of the original TL), as well as completely new landscape/environments improving and replacing what was there before (Nature's Wonderland replacing the dusty stagecoach trails, the whole Matterhorn/subs/monorail area replacing, well, nothing). And, of course, in 1967 the New TL radically replaced the original. True, it wasn't the entrance (the only actually unprecedented thing about the DCA changes). But considering that BVS will have only one attraction (the red cars) and the rest is revamped stores and restaurants - very nicely revamped from what I've seen, to be sure - it's hard to say the '67 TL redo wasn't more extensive, since it included major attractions such as the PeopleMover, ATIS, and the CofP, plus complete re-dos of America the Beautiful, Flight to the Moon, and Rocket Jets. (And this the same year that they added the landmark PoTC!) DL revamped its weakest land after a dozen years; DCA is revamping its weakest after 11. I can't think of another park, Disney or not, that underwent more monumental changes in its first dozen years than DL. (The pace ever since has slowed remarkably.) Most of them were wonderful, and they were done because they place was so popular, and because Walt was so restless with new ideas he wanted to put there. But motivations aside, DL itself is the biggest chameleon in its first dozen years. MGM also added enough stuff to outstrip its original price tag in its first dozen years, as it opened quite "light." This was much more the model for DCA than DL - open light, add more later. Which was also the basic model (every park is unique - this is BASIC model) taken then by DSP, HKDL, and to an extent DAK. DCA was neither the first nor last in this chain.
