None of those activities has any bearing on a vote in the House or Senate, where he had previously wielded massive influence. Being the majority leader was the essence of his being. When he resigned that post, he said it was temporary. Obviously, that was wishful thinking. Now, he's right where he belongs. Just another disgraced politician whose ego betrayed him. Period, paragraph, the end.

I don't see a gain for the dems here except for the fact that the guy who beat them like a bongo drum has decided to do something else. Good luck with that conviction by the way. There is nothing there.

But he was tired of the crap. Look at what you are saying about him STPH. YOu have no evidence, as usual, against him.. yet you have no problem saying he is a scummy criminal. And you voted for Bush and call yourself some kind of " republican ". Imagine the crap Delay was going to face from the libs this fall and summer. He is withdrawing because another Republican can win his seat without the BS from the libs. It's better for the GOP plus he can still work for the GOP.. not to mention he will make tons of cash.

Michael Schaivo told his ex girlfriend he had no idea what Terry would want if she was in the condidtion she was in. Michael Schaivo had a history of violence and to this day we don't know how she " collapsed " because he won't talk about it. Delay has nothing even close to this against him except having his way against liberals in congress.

He obviously wanted to retain his seat, and probably could have done it had nothing new come up between now and November. Which says to me that he may be worried about just that, now that two of his former aides are being prosecuted on matters not related to DeLay's Texas troubles, and are (I think) turning state's evidence. Hmmmmm. He may well believe he'll get a better deal from the prosecutors if he's out of the fishbowl of Congress and so less of a lightning rod. Just a guess, admittedly.

I would expect someone with similar ideology to be nominated, which may be very different from what the Republican voters in that district would have chosen had DeLay not been in the primary.

Beau--No offense but there is global warming; I'm not sure about kyoto as it was written; and yes Tom is technically innocent but come on? You have to see my analogy with tricky dick and him. You have to see it my good left coast friend.
