The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric. But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further. The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks. Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"*** http://www.telegraph.co.uk/new...ama.html These sort of "political" commentaries do not occur in a vacuum. Stirring up fear and hate is a dangerous endeavor, do you think that simply doesn't matter?

((And since we're getting into 1st Amend. territory here I'm just waiting for the misplaced and cliched statement concerning "fire in a crowded theater"))

People need to take responsibility for their actions and what they say instead of just saying that it's protected.

Pray for him if you want, he probably does need that, he is a sick, sick young man. But don't pretend that his being "held against his will" is in anyway unjust. BTW I'm a beautiful 44 year old brunette too, but you know what? I don't have an Internet poster with the names of people I disagree with under targets. Even if this boy didn't listen to Palin and the rest, the rhetoric needs to be dialed WAY back.

My point in the earlier post was that there are places where shootings happen more frequently than others. I'm not so naive as to think that there is gun fire from time to time here in San Francisco, but as others have pointed out violent crimes happen everywhere, guns or not.

Though it's far lower than here, but to say it's "statistically nil" is a bit of an exaggeration. The stats below are old, but for the sake of comparison here they are: "In terms of how it compares internationally, according to Bloomberg, ‘Japan's crime rate remains low by international standards, with 1.1 homicides per 100,000 people in 2005 compared with 3.5 in France, 3.2 in the UK and 5.6 in the US, according to official statistics.’" http://www.japaninc.com/jin469
