It's time for an intervention, and this isn't going to be pretty. Dug? Dug, we're not going to "return to normal". Those posts are gone. (An editorial aside-- I had requested the TOPIC, not the POSTS. An important distinction here...)

Now *that* hurt. And Doug, having just gone through an intervention, I'm here for you, buddy. Maybe we should set up a little private meet in July. You can fantasize about the Free Snacking thread coming back; I can fantasize about Kyan, and we can pat each other's hand and make soothing noises. (Keep holding fast to you dreams, PixieGlitter. Look--here's the original DRFSP thread, a little lighter, but still functional. Maybe Kyan will meet you and realize his destiny lies in something more meaningful than helping straight guys figure out which is the salad fork!)

Surely you have noted the mysterious return of the 2004 Snackie Awards Planning Thread? It wasn't here when we first returned... (And now, to explain. I keep my settings such that anything over 30 days old drops off. So, of course, EVERYTHING dropped off. In the bewildering aftermath, I forgot to check on ALL posts. But once I did...here was the DRFSP...)

In gentle tones, says: Dug, listen to me carefully, okay? You're right that some restoration was done after the boards came back up. We have more on LP now than we first did after the crash. But Dug... the restoration is complete. No more of our old favorite posts will be reappearing. Everything that was posted between the January 24 and April 4 is lost: every post that was made during that time, on every thread. *DlandDug opens his mouth to protest* I'm sorry, Dug. I wish it weren't true, but it is. Dug, do you understand? That means that if a thread was born after January 24, it doesn't exist any more. "Snackie Awards Planning" is still here because it was started before then. *Dug stammers, then yells at I-57, "No! You're LYING!"* I'm sorry. Dug, I'm not telling you what I think. I'm telling you what Dave and Doobie have told us. *I-57 stands awkwardly to the side, feeling powerless as DlandDug sobs uncontrollably* (It's still powerful stuff, Inspector. Completely wrong, but powerful. Kinda like Fox News.)

I clearly understand that two months worth of posts are gone forever (just like confidence that DCA will eventually find its public). But there are many, many topics that existed well before that time that have not come back. As "new" old topics keep appearing every day, is it not safe to ASSUME that eventaully all (or most) will? My question to you, Mr. Inspector, is this: are you certain that the "restoration is complete?" (I know the whole site restoration is far from complete. For example, we still can't link to Dave by clicking on "Report This Topic to a Moderator." Goodness knows, I've tried...)

In fact, it was started before November of last year. (I posted a Thanksgiving greeting on behalf of Turkey Legs there.) Right now, there are TWELVE topics in the PlayPen that were started before January 24. Are you telling me that the over 800 topics that previously existed were all started AFTER January 24? I know we are fast and obsessive here, but there's a limit...

I thought "Free Snacking" was created *after* the cut-off date. Still searching for that post of Doobie's: it may still clarify. FWIW, Dug, I certainly didn't mean to insult your intelligence. And... I'll also miss the really inspired posts and very fun banter from that thread. I'm sorry if I seemed belittling.

Belittling is when you intentionally try to make someone appear foolish or less than themself. (Inspector looks up at DlandDug, eyes welling in gratitude.) I assume you had no intention of doing such a thing, so no offense was taken. (Inspector gasps in relief, stuffs hand in mouth, and rushes out af room in all directions.)

I'm still looking for a post in which I thought Dave further clarified, but: On Sunday, April 4, Doobie wrote: "The good news is the Discussion Boards are once again up and running. The bad news is any messages posted within the past two months or so have been lost. I know that is VERY bad news and I wish it weren't the case - but it is. So I hope you'll all work extra hard to get things back up to speed on the boards." Yesterday, April 5, he wrote: "Yes, please re-register. If your account doesn't exist now, it won't exist in the future. All restoration of data like that is now complete. All that's left is getting all the pics and videos uploaded (which will take a few days - it's a lot of data)." That's in the "April 3rd-5th LP Outage" thread in "LP General": http://www.laughingplace.com/d efault.asp?WCI=MsgBoard&WCE=T-46930-P-1&Refresh=0406123041

The only snack that starts its life in eggs! The snack so good that you can't help but whistle, While chewing gristle, The kind that's close to the bone! It's dense and auburn, And makes your paw burn, Even in the car when you're driving home. Hooray for Turkey Legs! The snack for which a newborn baby begs!
