And the Japanese still use plastic sheets to sit on - just to keep it that extra extra clean !

I've done something similar, but with the flight attendant call button on an airplane. I normally refrain from using it at all, but on one particular flight (on an Asian carrier on a trans-Pacific flight in first class) we were having quite a good time with the drink service and all.

After they were done with the meal service, we rang the bell when we needed something. Their response rate averaged 3 seconds, with the maximum time being 4 seconds before they were at our seat with a cheerful smile. Quite impressive, and about on par with the cleanliness standards at TDR.

Please. TDR doesn't even come close to offering the same level of food quality as Napa.

A large proportion of the cast who work tirelessly to ensure that Napa Rose is the finest dining destination in OC. In the Disney sphere it has no peer.

I believe the latter is the case. His info on TDR is never on the mark.

He may be off the mark about Magellan's but he sure is quite on the mark when he refered to the TDR CMs attributes, and anyone who has been there should agree. They are the most efficient and polite.

I'm not a "Foodie", and my knowledge of wine is rather limited, but from my perspective the filet mignon I had at Magellan's was just as good as any filet I've had at Napa Rose.

But what sets Magellan's above Napa Rose in my opinion is the service. The service at Napa Rose is never bad, and it's often quite good. But on the flip side it's also only "passable" and it's never been as flawlessly spectacular as the service I encountered at Magellan's. The service at Magellan's was so meticulous, and so caring and gracious, that we walked out of there like we were riding on a cloud. Everyone was just so wonderful at Magellan's, I wanted to send a thank you note to the entire restaurant!

I've told this Magellan's story before on boards, but here goes..... Midway through our meal myself and a couple other of the guys at the table found ourselves in the boys room at the same time. We were in there joking around about something and commenting on the pristine operating-room cleanliness of the bathroom. We stepped out and the head manager was standing at the end of the hallway to the restrooms, and I immediately thought "Oh, great, we've been making too much noise joking around and he's mad because the table of boorish Americans is ruining his beautiful restaurant". On the contrary, when we got to him at the end of the hall he said "Good evening Gentlemen, may I show you something interesting?" I said "Uh, okay", and he proceeded to tell me to push my hand on the gorgeous wood carvings on the wall. When I got to a certain spot, he said "Push hard", and the bookcase full of antique books next to us silently slid open and revealed a secret dining room. It was like something from a James Bond movie! We stepped in and inspected this dining room decorated with old wine kegs and wine making equipment and antiques, all set up with a big fancy table set for a dozen people who were arriving later. He chatted with us for a few moments and told us about the restaurant. He gave us his card at the end of the discussion, and he was a big head-honcho manager for the restaurants in DisneySea. It was just one of dozens of fascinating little interactions we had with countless Tokyo CM's, from churro hostesses to high ranking managers in Armani suits.

In all the times I've been to the Napa Rose, not once has a manager stopped at our table to speak with us, let alone welcome us to the restaurant or show us some little detail of the restaurant or menu.

There's always a manager or two to be seen at Napa Rose, and I've often seen that top manager Michael guy who is often in gourmet magazines, Sunset, OC Magazine, etc. But he's never made eye contact with me or my party, let alone introduce himself and chat with us. And I'm one of those who doesn't ever eat at Napa Rose without at least a sportcoat on, and often I've been at the table when everyone was dropping well over a hundred dollars per person on the meal, so it can't be because I'm considered riff-raff or a cheapskate unworthy of special attention. (Personally, I think Napa Rose desperately needs to enforce a dress code for dinner, but that's another thread)

The Napa Rose staff is fine, and offers some of the best service in Disney's Anaheim bubble. But compared to the staff at Magellan's, the Napa Rose pales noticeably. The little details at Napa Rose are often overlooked, the mens room on my last visit looked like a tornado had blown through, and the extreme grace and pride that the Magellan's CM's all displayed is lacking at Napa Rose.

So while a real gourmand may be able to tell that they aren't using fresh horseradish in a sauce or the wrong kind of leeks in a soup at Magellan's, from my perspective the food quality at both Napa Rose and Magellan's was very comparable. Unfortunately for Napa Rose, the service at Magellan's is quite superior. I'll be dining at Magellan's again on my next Tokyo visit in '07! Since I returned from Tokyo 8 months ago, I have no immediate plans to return to the Napa Rose.

I'm also one of those who apparently didn't pay attention in sixth grade English class. When do we get an edit feature on these boards? Maybe for Disneyland's 75th Anniversary? ;-)

I'm surprised by that TP2000 as I have never heard anyone call Napa just passable.

I'm also surprised by the fact you found the F&B host/hostesses at TDR to be exemplary. I've always found the service to be spotty and that they were usually the worst CMs (and that is relative) in the whole resort. Funny how people perceive things differently.
