I think it had the potential of being over until this latest McCain ad hit. But maybe I am overestimating my fellow citizens yet again. Guess we'll see.

No, it's not. Sen Obama voted for a bill which stated, "Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV."

Where did you get that quote?

Lifted from queenbee in another thread:

Obama, contrary to the ad's insinuation, does not support explicit sex education for kindergarteners. And the bill, which would have allowed only "age appropriate" material and a no-questions-asked opt-out policy for parents, was not his accomplishment to claim in any case, since he was not even a cosponsor – and the bill never left the state Senate.>>

The text of the bill says otherwise. The record shows he voted for it.

The above is a quote from the bill. What follows is an interview with Obama regarding the legislation.

<<Keyes, Oct. 21, 2004: Well, I had noticed that, in your voting, you had voted, at one point, that sex education should begin in kindergarten, and you justified it by saying that it would be "age-appropriate" sex education. [It] made me wonder just exactly what you think is "age-appropriate."

Obama: We have a existing law that mandates sex education in the schools. We want to make sure that it's medically accurate and age-appropriate. Now, I'll give you an example, because I have a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old daughter, and one of the things my wife and I talked to our daughter about is the possibility of somebody touching them inappropriately, and what that might mean. And that was included specifically in the law, so that kindergarteners are able to exercise some possible protection against abuse, because I have family members as well as friends who suffered abuse at that age. So, that's the kind of stuff that I was talking about in that piece of legislation. >>

This is all available at factcheck including a link to full text of SB99.

Once again, not it doesn't. Here is an exerpt from the actual HB99:

"appropriate to the various grade levels; and whenever such
courses of instruction are provided in any of grades K 6 through 12, then such courses also shall include age appropriate instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV AIDS."

Here is a link to Illinois House Bill 99 (check section 5):

The language I quoted is in the first paragraph. You can deny it all you want, but it's there.

Your "facts" are in the same department, Doug.

I even corrected people on here when they did the same thing to Palin, much as I am opposed to her VP candidacy.

Why not show some integrity and start doing the same, Douglas? At least one person from your side should, might as well be you.
