In fact it's funny this topic came up because believe it or not changing tables are a big reason we became such big Disney fans. I always loved WDW, started going on the first anniversary. My husband and I went to DL on our honeymoon(his first trip to any park). We noticed that every bathroom including the men's had a changing table. It was then that we realized that Disney was the most family friendly entertainment out there. So as we started having our little ones I don't have to tell you where we headed. Of course the Baby Station sealed the deal. It was unheard of to have a place where you could meet all the needs of your wee ones.

Unfortunately the combined events(diaper change/flash photo) is a testiment of the self absorbed state of the "civilized" world at present. We are expecting our first grandchild in the fall and my most fervent prayer is that she/he will be respectful of her/himself as well as her/his fellow travelers on the planet.

Gee that was sure a lot of words to say "change the darn diaper after you get off the ride".;)

Every adult says this too Goofern, I HOPE it isn't true. I mean think about what times were like for young people in the 60's. It was AS bad, maybe in different ways. Maybe?

As a father of 2, I'v been in the situation where you know you can wait to change the diaper. There's times when you just can't.

Example: If you get on the POTC boat and notice that there's poop creeping out of the diaper onto the clothes, THAT's a time when you can't wait to clean up. If there's no option, you just do it quickly and quietly.

I'm all about waiting till you get to a restroom or off the ride in the stroller in a corner, but sometimes extreme situations call for extreme measures.

I guess that it would depend on where you were raised. Many areas were far more sophisticated then others. In Vermont, things were fairly calm throughout the 60's. Our idea of a wild time was to stuff as many people in the trunk as we could and go to the drive in to watch shows like "Beach Blanket Bingo" while drinking our fair share of Ner'Beer. We were Wild and Crazy guys. Man, just try and keep up!

I know that the more Urban areas had a bigger problem with drugs, etc. but compared to today, it seems trivial to me.

As far as having the boat sanitized; isn't that a bit of an over-reaction? You are far more likely to pick up some bad-nasty by touching some surface recently touched by one of the MANY adults who don't wash their hands after using the restroom.

That doesn't happen in full view of everyone, but it much grosser as far as I'm concerned.

It wasn't so many years ago that it was considered socially acceptable to treat someone with open contempt and disdain because of the color of their skin. For instance, it was not considered the least bit rude to refer to the Brazil Nut by an EXTREMELY offensive name.
And while out in public, the most rude and beligerent people I have seen are members of a more "polite" generation. And as an idependent woman I have never been treated more rudely than by older men. Apparently, I have over-stepped my place in society according to their "chivalrous" standard.

I'm sorry, but what we consider propper public behaviour by the masses may have changed. But people have always been selfish and rude. We/they just present it differently than in years past.

It's funny that you should mention that. The term you're referring to came to my attention for the first time not three weeks ago. I've lived in the South almost 10 years now and am still expanding my vocabulary. I have to wonder how many other terms like that there are which are common knowledge here but that I've never heard myself since I didn't grow up in the South.

I agree. Overall people are MUCH more civilized today than they were in the past. Forty years ago it was considered more or less acceptable for a man to slap his wife around a bit as long as he didn't put her in the hospital. Even people who disapproved of such behavior still thought it was a private matter and not something the police should be involved with.

It was also fairly common (as my red welted butt showed on many occasions) for a dad to whip his kids with a belt on his bare butt. Discipline you know. Gotta keep those kids in line.

And of course drinking and driving was something where everyone, including the police, looked the other way. If you were stopped and the cops recognized you (common occurrence in a small town), you were told to be careful and go directly home. There was never even a thought that the person would be arrested.

So yes, people may be a little rude at times today. But we as a society are far more civilized than we were in the past.

    How quickly we forget.

Hate to burst your bubble there but I was raised and have lived all my life in the north. That particular usage was totally prevalent when I was a child. That's what my mother called them. Yes, I have to agree that some things are better now, I hadn't thought about it that way.

Worse, I've seen people changing diapers in WDW restuarants like that is something that's socially acceptable or hygenic.

There isn't one trip to a WDW resort where the pool isn't shut down because someone's brat decided to defacate in it ...

I will say society as a whole isn't evolving as much as devolving (I often see behavior so bad, I imagine the people are chimps!).

I'll also say that regardless of money, race, creed, etc ... that WDW attracts more trash now than any place I frequent.

P.S. To the hotheads on this board, please reread that statement before attacking. I am saying there is just as much trash at the GF as there is at the POP.

I can't imagine I would have ever done it on a Disney attraction, but I've learned to never say never. I'm not sure what was going on in the original poster's boat, but changing a "messy" diaper in that uncomfortable seems pretty awkward and potentially pretty unsanitary.
