However, the paleontological community made it known just how inaccurate that whole scenario was since in reality Stegosaurus had gone extinct several million years before T. rex ever appeared in the evolutionary scale of things and the two never could have met. When it came time to put things together for the New York World's Fair, the objections were recalled and an attempt was made to correct things by replacing rexie with the more accurate Allosaurus - an actual contemporary of Stegosaurus. Hence the difference in head-size, 3 fingers rather than two, etc. However, somehow things got confused along the way as to just what this thing was meant to be and it became an amalgam of both predators in the end. Interestingly, you'll note the same almost identical scene is featured in Epcot's "Universe Of Energy" ride-thru segment, but here they made sure it's an actual Allosaurus and nothing but.

They are still in service today. That version lacks the "Grand Canyon of today" part, but the dino part is more or less the same.

"And Hans, it's time to start getting excited for this years birthday present I'm getting for you." My local Salvation Army thanks you. Interesting back story information Brian55nh. "The Japanese liked the dinos so much at the original DL that they had a second set made for Tokyo DL." Oh, right. I'd forgotten about that. The missing Grand Canyon diorama segment is halfway around the world at Disneyland Paris.

Because: 1) It hasn't happened in 50 years, unlike with the other attractions, which have been constantly updated over the years. I'll bet that the same incorrect and obsolete dinos will be entertaining train riders 50 years from now. 2) The sharp pencil boys will want to see some ROI. If they have to spend a few million redoing the dioramas and replacing the AAs, well I just don't see it happening. Better dinos won't bring in any crowds. If anything, I'm surprised that they haven't been removed (I'm guessing that keeping them roaring doesn't cost very much). In other words: its already good enough

Maybe they can find a way to incorporate Dinosaur Jack from Yesterland's Sunglass Hut. In all seriousness, though, I really do wish they would update it...especially the stationary animals. It's like riding through a museum.

Ford sponsored Magic Skyways at the1964-65 New York World's Fair, which included a segment in which guests rode brand new Ford convertibles past prehistoric scenes, and into the world of the future. http://farm6.static.flickr.com...9893.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/5...ostream/ After the Fair was over, the dinosaurs were given a new home in Disneyland. The cavemen and cavewomen that accompanied them were not so lucky. I understand they all moved to New Jersey, and their kids now star in some reality TV series...

It always surprises me just how large and extensive the Primevil World diorama is; it seems like it's significantly longer than the Grand Canyon, and has some sets that are really large and stretch quite far back from the train. >>That can be solved by converting the Main Street Railroad station into a Primeval gift shop.<< Nah, they'd never do that. They'd need to build an elevator to make the station ADA-compliant, which means spending money, so it's basically out of the question. I read many years ago (before the 50th) that there was talk of getting it put on the National Historic Places Register so that it would be exempt. I don't think they ever did that (since it would add a whole new level of rediculous requirements to it), but it certainly makes for a good story!
