I am curious as to how the new Haunted Mansion movie reboot will play out. I bet it makes these queue additions seem even that much more out of alignment if the movie is truly scary and dark.

Terrific.

Yes, I know the HM is scary to some but overall the tone is light and comical. AE very effectively utilized the psychology of terror. Put you in a dark space, set you up to expect something terrifying in the building that you can't see and clamp you down in your seat so you can't move. It is that last part that made it especially terrifying and inappropriate for kids. Just my opinion...

Originally Posted By plpeters70 <<I don't get how either park is different. It's all Disney. AE was fine in the MK.>> I agree - but understand why some might not feel that way. A lot of people view the Magic Kingdom as the "kiddie" park, so they get upset when a ride frightens their child. (Of course, you don't see them getting all upset about the roller coasters that the kids can't ride, but whatever...) Plus, I don't think that Disney has done much in the last 10 or so years to change anyone's mind on that. It's all about dreams, wishes and magic these days - not so much about thrills, etc.
Originally Posted By RoadTrip <<(Of course, you don't see them getting all upset about the roller coasters that the kids can't ride, but whatever...)>> The difference is with a coaster you know what you are getting and can judge if your child will like it or not. AE was totally unlike any other attraction in the park (or at WDW for that matter). It basically carried the same warning as the various "dark rides" but was far more intense. Yes, parents could go on it first themselves to judge if it was OK for your child, but you don’t expect having to do that at the MK.

Remember Snow White, Bambie, The Headless Horseman, to name just a few. In order to have a happy ending something scary or upsetting has got to happen to magnify it. Even if you didn't believe the signs it was absolutely no secret that it was scaring young kids half to death. That's not to say that there was anything wrong with that, it was part of the show, but that is why Stitch replaced it. Stitch was a known entity. He was mischievous but harmless and all kids that ever saw the movies knew that. That made the scary parts a little more sugar coated.

But then I'm not a big fan of the movies (only saw the first one once), so I'm sure most guests think the changes are the greatest thing ever.

Geez, I'm not even asking for folks to talk to strangers, which can be fun too. ---- even better yet Christi --I remember the days when real fun was talking to the people around you in line-- you never knew where they were from, and sometimes it was cool to just chat with someone you'll never see again in your life. However today- you'd text them if they were standing next to you...and tweets- texting for morons
