so what Commie AA's in Small World taking over at night ? Suvivalist groups living back in Tom Sawyer's Island ? Astro Orbit ships flying reconnaisance missions over Southern Florida after hours?

ah, that explains why the subs are gone ;-)

    Here's my recollection.

They locked us in to those former 'Mission to Mars' seats, the lights went out, everybody was screaming bloody murder. Water sprayed in my face, somebody with a flashlight walked around the grid above us, then the lights came on and we left.

But I have to say, I always really enjoyed Alien Encounter - especially every ride after the first time. It was always kind of fun to listen to everyone freak out in there - especially those who obviously didn't know what they were in for!

I also always felt that the whole attraction was just really well designed. Especially the way they slowly established the dark mood of the show. It started off all nice and happy, with what seems to be an interesting demo of the new teleportation technology, and that cute alien they had for the demonstration was adorable. But then that creepy robot voiced by Tim Curry shows up, and suddenly that cute alien is basically killed, and from that point on things just got out of control! Dark, sure - but also a lot of fun!!

It was the opposite for me. Although I hated what it was doing for my daughter, I found it to be a totally unique experience. The first time. After that it was a one trick pony, and once you knew what that trick was it was a total and complete bore. For me it was like the movie Signs... terrifying the first time and a yawner the second time around. Water. Crud… the old Wicked Witch of the West trick.

But not squeaky clean and terror inducing are entirely different things.

    And that includes Superstar Limo

You'd rather text someone who isn't there, than SPEAK to the person next to you!! And we wonder why civility is declining in our society? Geez, I'm not even asking for folks to talk to strangers, which can be fun too.
---- even better yet Christi --I remember the days when real fun was talking to the people around you in line-- you never knew where they were from, and sometimes it was cool to just chat with someone you'll never see again in your life. However today- you'd text them if they were standing next to you...and tweets- texting for morons>>

I don't really have much to add. I just so agree with that. Talking and meeting people from around the country (and planet) was always a little extra MAGIC of being at WDW. But now you get far less of that because of STUPID PHONES.

I am not against technology at all. About to make my first iPad plunge. But, rest assured, I'll never be hanging in a theme park with it.

They say technology brings us together and it does in some great important ways (like knowing almost immediately that my friends in Tokyo were safe after the quake) ... but it also creates a great distance in people when they become addicted to the tech and forget the best times with friends will always be with them in person (or even phone ... or dare I say? skype).

But seriously, folks, put your effing phones away when at WDW and just enjoy the place. Or stay home, give me your money and I'll enjoy it for you ... and even write you an entertaining report when I return :)

    :)

AND being able to talk to friends and family from the affected zone, both to reassure them and also just to have a chance to chat, vent, whatever.

Not to mention there is a tavern/alcohol mentioned in 5 out of the 6 lands in MK.
