"there have been gangster rap and heavy metal bands playing HOB at DL and WDW for years." They don't belong there. Particularly the gangster rap bilge. Anyone who thinks that filth is entertainment probably would lose to a chimp in an IQ test, as far as I'm concerned. It's just how low our society has fallen that even allows this sort of thing to be called anything than what it actually is: Coarse and deviant filth. "how people get up in arms if gay days are critiqued" I don't care if gay days are critiqued all that much. But there is a difference. You can't help being gay. It's like being left handed. You can't do anything about it. However, you can do something about your taste in pop culture. If you CHOOSE to wallow yourself in the putrid yowling of these wastrels, then you are deserving of having your "rights" trampled upon. "I would rather be surrounded by metal heads than cheerleaders or Night of Joy folks." I would personally rather be surrounded by people who are not cult members or people who can't distinguish quality from indecency. That is, normal average folks who simply want to enjoy themselves and not immerse themselves in filthy language, as gangter rap does, death and devil junk like heavy metal does, or religious insantiy like Night of Joy people do. Just because one group of people are revolting in a manner different than another group does not mean that either are worth spending time with.

Because I don't care to be assaulted by filth, or be surrounded at DTD by people who seem to think filth is entertaining.

Totally agree. I think I'd like to hang out with Jon. Should I be afraid? ;-)

Why this recent spark?>> Lots of content in a concise post! <<gangster rap and heavy metal bands>> Well, wait a second. At least in terms of the likelihood of violence at a concert. Gangsta rap and "heavy metal" may not be in the same league. Venues playing gangsta rap are more likely to experience violence in the audience than those playing other types of music. When was the last time you heard of someone being shot in the parking lot of a Dave Matthews Band concert? "Heavy Metal" is a broad term. There's 70's metal bands. (I suspect those are the ones that have veggie pacifists for fans.) Newer metal, like NIN. Rap metal. For the most part, metal fans are low-maintenance concert-goers. (Though they DO seem to be over-represented among the teens-on-shooting-spree-at-school crowd.) <<it is not the most wholesome>> And, in my opinion, that's good enough reason for Disney to say, "We don't want to be associated with them. They won't perform on our property." Even if the fans of some metal groups are statistically unlikely to become violent at their bands' shows, they dress the part and they act in a tough, non-"Disney" fashion. I'd just as soon they not be there when I'm visiting DTD. <<Why this recent spark?>> Who knows. But as both a social liberal and a big Disney fan, the Disney fan in me wins out in this case. The suddenness of this decision makes me wonder if policies are changing in part because of the media issue over the black kids who were "mistreated" at WDW's DTD a few months ago. In any event, it totally blows that Disney made this proclamation the day before the concert. I'm glad the bands were able to find another venue so quickly.

And I think it is very unfair that at the last minute, Disney pulled the "unsafe" card when they knew about it for months. I presume there are clear standards in the contract HOB has with Disney in regards to what they can offer, but there also needs to be fairness on both sides, and in this specific case, seems like Disney is going to regret its actions by pull the "last minute" decision. But the bigger question is does HOB want to upset the Mouse over the one concert, or will they make peace behind the scenes and get some future concessions from Disney?

Wouldn't it be so much easier for each of the three of us if the other two were COMPLETELY uncredible and unlikeable and added nothing of value to LP? Why can't you two be like Mr X and WorldDisney, who are so TOTALLY devoid of value on these boards that it feels GOOD to cringe at their posts?!
