If you play MadGab a lot, you see both of these throughout: (1) Don't try to just present every syllable with an alternate spelling. Although one-syllable words are often required, sounds only need to come out in the same order--not be grouped in the same syllables. For "laughter", the novice tries "laff ter". Not only aren't those words, they are just a wrong spelling of the word. Try "loft her". The 't' sound moved from one syllable to the other, and we get a MadGab-esque representation of the sounds with real words. (2) Don't try to replicate each sound perfectly. I did that above, but here's another example: for "Casey Jr.", instead of "case he june your", try "case eat tune your." The 't' sounds are thrown in the mix, but in a way that makes a MadGab-like 'j' sound. /end pontificating FEE FAN OFF EAT ODD!
