Well, some of them might fit in Tomorrowland if the storyline there were altered slightly into science fiction theme. With Buzz and Star Tours already there, such a theme is a no-brainer and superheros wouldn't be incongruous with that. Another idea is a theme park or land devoted solely to Marvel characters. Obviously the movie themed parks like DHS and DSP would be perfect fits. There are plenty of options for these character franchises without sticking the Incredible Hulk on top of Screamin' or Spiderman conducting a meet and greet in front of Cinderella Castle.

The Spiderman attraction was developed by Universal and will be theirs even if they eliminate Spiderman. Disney has no rights to that technology just because they made a Marvel deal. All they will get is the licensing fees that Universal used to pay Marvel.

But really don't see anything big stateside on the theme park side unless Disney decides Regional Entertainment can do mini-Marvel parks across the country that won't hurt DL/WDW business. I think CHINA is where Marvel winds up in theme parks. Of course there may indeed be some obscure character that could be developed, but Disney hasn’t really had the capability to produce any significant superhero action adventure films (since Condor Man?).

With the Dubai projects suffering from the economic downturn, is it possible that Disney may find itself having to follow through on a Marvel deal that was faltering and that would end up costing them with little benefit?

I asked them if they had heard the news. They had not and when I told them, you think I told them their mother died. It is funny how people are having kittens from both sides. It will be interesting to watch, but I am worried. No one else is likely to be interested in making the hero films, and let's face it, Disney's films are not that great anymore either. This is what really scares me. I don't think we have much to fear about the parks, because I get the distinct impression the company does not much care for the parks anymore either.

With a history of it's own. And the mere thought of mixing the two worlds just makes me shudder! So, while the corporate big wigs think of nothing but making the Disney company (that once had it's own brand) into a "COSTCO" of MULTIPLE Brands .... I hope they understand very well ... they can't treat DL like some Misc./Catch All "opportunity" to market their newest additions. It's too much! First their own .... then Lucas' Star Wars then Indy. Then Pixar ... Now Marvel? It's just becoming a Wash of multiple brands .. and I sincerely feel the Marvel brand just tips it in the wrong direction ... whereas the "Magic Kingdom" parks are concerned.

Disney ain't some mom & pop operation struggling to put money together for it's poor little park in Anaheim, CA! Don't ever say they can't afford to do needed overhauls on areas of DL .. when they just spent 4 BILLION on Marvel! This whole "they can't afford this or that" is just fooie! rant over.

I am worried they will screw up Marvel and maybe even the parks as well. And whether you guys like it or not, DL is not one park anymore, it is a whole resort. I cannot see these guys making it into Main Street (Capt America on the 4th of July, maybe not), Adventureland, Frontierland (though a cameo by Beast in Critter Country could be funny), or Fantasyland, some of these could fit into Tomorrowland. I think it is DCA that would see these characters, IF they come. But really, I don't think this one is any more about the parks than ESPN or Go.Com. I think this is about TV, print channels and access to other markets (though Marvel is really more of an American thing).

Disney developed the ride system for Star Tours, but it wasn't long before other parks started having simulator rides. If Disney owns the right to use Spiderman in a ride west of the Mississippi, and can approximate the technology, they theoretically could have something very like IOA's Spiderman ride (perhaps with slightly different ride tech and a different plot just for legal CYA reasons) in DCA or DSP or Shanghai. If they wanted to, I don't think Uni could do much about it. Of course, DCA through 2012 is pretty mapped out, and as good as the IOA ride is, I think Disney will go in a different direction. More likely to see it in a non-US park, if anywhere. I don't expect to see a lot of Marvel in the parks except as merch in the near term. If they come to the parks, the studio parks make the most sense. I think Disney will stick its toe in the water in terms of Marvel at the parks, rather than jump in head first.
