    That's it?

There's a memo from the Church saying it will pretend to not be involved to cause plausible deniability and you come up with a weak response like that? It's a common tactic when you've got nothing - act as if the assertions of the other side are so beneath you as to be "hilarious." But it won't fly.

You sat here and told us the church encouraged members to get involved but wouldn't get involved themselves. You said "sacred thing" funds wouldn't be used.

The second assertion was proven false long ago. Now the first has too. And not only were they involved, they went on a deliberate campaign of misinformation to deny their involvement.

Where I come from, that's called "lying."

Oh I get it now. Yeah, that is a gas. "We took the most sacred thing away from people then whined about our sacred temple being shown on Big Love."

That is a knee-slapping, rip roarin' good time.

    Exactly!!

You know, those few days after the vote was a turning point for me as far as my perception of Mormon folk.

Prior to that I always thought they were sincere and decent, if misguided (misguided is certainly not exclusive to Utah though, I thought at the time).

And growing up Catholic, I could sort of see where they thought they were coming from. But most the Catholics *I* know wouldn't display what I saw from them at that time.

There was something sinister in the obnoxious schadenfreude on full display. Add to that the hypocrisy of their "how dare you!?" faux outrage every-time THEIR important stuff is called into question...it's simply galling.

In fairness, I think he was a good guy. Just clueless.

And that's kind of the recurring theme here. All the responses and statements from Mormons seem to show that they were genuinely surprised at the hatred they engendered. The protests at the temples, Mormons losing their jobs in the entertainment industry, the backlash. They weren't expecting it. Which shows how clueless they were, and a kind of disturbing ability to divorce their actions from the terrible and cruel harm they were doing.

And the statements from church leaders about how "people of good will can disagree" just shows how little they get it. We're not debating tax law, for crying out loud. We're talking about people's rights, equality, and messing with the relationships they hold most dear.

People see the Mormons as akin to segregationists in the south in the 1950s. And instead of that being a wakeup call to just how far on the wrong side they are, they see it as further evidence of their correctness because it's only natural that persecution will follow righteousness. What a warped way of thinking.

But, never attribute to malice what you can attribute to ignorance. And there's buckets of it out there.

Oh, and by the way... YOU WILL NEVER convince me that God doesn't live, that Joseph Smith wasn't a prophet, or that the Book of Mormon isn't what it claims to be. NEVER. EVER. God himself is the only one who could change my mind about that. Call me ignorant, misguided, simple, whatever words you want, I just read them and realize how lucky I really am.

So, you recommend all babies be born out of wedlock?

Oh, and then there's my favorite bumper sticker of all time:

    "Jesus had two Daddies"

    :)

I don't mean to come here and preach. I typically only post when I see somethign that I feel is incorrect, and I try to make a quick point. It's usually followed with quick attacks on my beliefs and references to 1979 and Prop 8, and jabs at my intelligence.

You could've saved a lot of typing if you'd simply wrote: "*fingers in ears* La la la...can't hear you!"

Your church demonizes folks like me and you expect me to lie down and take it? No. Friggin'. Way.

At least I don't work on legislation to outlaw with Mormonism. Maybe I should start.

I'll be glad to discuss actual specific items when I feel like it. But I just feel I should remind you guys where I am coming from once in a while.

Wouldn't be the first time it's been done. Are you familiar with Bogg's extermination order? Maybe you can fight to restore it.
