But I really like that song, so it made me happy to hear it played along the parade route!

The last time I was too busy to admire the look of the place that I did rather ignore the sound.

I thought you could buy the video of Song of the South in Europe?

I had no idea, but you are right: several copies of the 1991 VHS tape (dubbed into German) are available at Amazon.de, starting at about 6 $ for a second-hand one. But I have no idea whether I know anyone who still has a VHS recorder...

Maybe it was more well known in other European countries, but while I have seen lots of Disney films on TV as a kid in the 70s and 80s, I have no memory of having ever seen Song of the South.

I had no idea WDW had a theme, is there any place online where I can listen to it?

Does DLP have a theme as well? I am afraid it might be the Dancin' - A Catchy Rythm song???

Thanks EPCOT Explorer! I guess the reason why they don't use it much anymore is that it sounds really classy. ;)

That video was really great, I watched all four parts of it and now want to get on a time machine to vacation at WDW 1972 (even though I would really miss all the mountains!).

If you didn't live so far away you could borrow one of mine. I have several. I still have my reel to reel recorder, and 8 track tape deck too.

Disney released it in Europe. I wonder if it's available at DLP?

Lol, thanks for the offer! I am afraid it wouldn't work though due to NTSC v. PAL issues... But now I figured out that at amazon.uk they sell the English version (don't really want to see it dubbed...) on VHS for a few pounds. I guess I really am going to order a copy and finally find out what this mystery film is all about. Splash Mountain will be a totally new experience!

Song of the South was a typical light hearted Disney type movie as best I remember. The concept of animation, and real humans interacting in a movie was amazing to me in my youth. Just don't watch it if you are in a politically correct mood. The film takes place in the South after the Civil War. Evidently it is offensive to some folks. I don't remember it as such, but I'm not black, and I might have been 10 years old when I watched it.

The orchestration is dated, yes, but the composition isn't. Beautiful, haunting, piece.

Me too. Though, with all the charm and detail the place had to offer then, I'd do without. Splash is honestly the only one I ride regularly.

I watched it a few years ago... It's not offensive if you know your history and historiography.

Don't need to. He's on a hydraulic stage. Just move him out of place. :)
