Heck, Disneyland was designed to be placed in the center of the SoCal area, and the forcasters did a GREAT job of doing that, so much so, DIsneyland still gets the majority of their guests from the area, but they found out that an out-of-town guest creates a higher profit per day than a local. These Press Releases are designed to go into the local out-of-town paper, or radio/tv broadcasts. Disney did not allow local media to attend this event, or time it for a broadcast during the popular Live Morning News segments here in the LA/San Diego area (Did you know that the KTLA Channel 5 LA news is also shown in San Diego on Channel 69, with a couple of local edits...). Your only source was the official Disney Photos, and a special TV News feed made by Disney. Heck, the only two Media folks that showed up were DlandDug and myself, and they were a bit surprised to see us. We were not allowed into the roped off area. All my photos were from behind the ropes, or in the case of the Matterhorn photos, in a public area. This was a staged event designed to create publicity around the world, but mainly designed for North America, and not having a local SoCal focus.
