Someone I knew quite well and would have never suspected was nabbed in one of those 'to catch a predator' style stings in the midwest a couple of years ago. Almost none of my son's fellow cub scouts continued with scouting, and it had nothing to do with gay scoutmasters. It just doesn't speak to them. That said, it will probably survive in a niche, mostly sponsored by LDS Wards or Chapters of The Knights of Columbus. Which is a shame, as I enjoyed my years as a Scout, but the times, alas, they are changing.

In my neck of the woods, Charter schools are sometimes referred to, in jest, as "LDS Parochials" due to a high concentration of LDS students in said schools. A "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation. Not sure if BSA has actively decided to cast its lot with churches or if that is something that "happened"

Would others who favor allowing gays to serve as leaders now enroll their kids in scouting if the policy were changed tomorrow? That's the big unknown.

My own son had no real interest in being an Eagle Scout, though he often helped others work on Eagle projects. But he stayed involved through most of high school and developed some abilities that still help him.
