When you're at the parks, you can text WAIT and the name of an attraction to 37275 to receive wait times, MEET and a character name will get you meet-and-greet information, etc. If you have multiple trips planned through the year, you can use the service for up to twelve days per year."

Other features include showtimes which you can set reminders for (have you phone page you before the event to remind you) and character look-up for pretty much any character they might have in the park.

Disney has a multi-year deal with Verizon where Verizon helps develop mobile phone technology for in-park use. In return, Verizon gets to keep certain functionality exclusive to their network, although a base level of functionality works with all carriers. It looks like what's been described for DL in this thread exactly fits that model.

According to what you posted, this information is available via SMS on any cellular carrier. Completely independent of this is the mobile app that works only on Verizon phones, which may also include this information in an easier-to-use interface as well as additional Verizon-only functionality.

I am guessing this is one of the ways Disney is training guests to not rush to a ride upon opening and to control long lines w/in the park for Fire Codes...At least that is how my mind can accept the disappointment. But it is a long walk back to TS.
