For me the positives about working for the Disney Company are that I get to make magical memories and moments for our guests every single day. I am working at a place that i love and has lots of historical disney goodies. I am a huge Walt Disney enthusiast and try to remeber that I am working at a place the he built,a place that families can come together and have fun without the stress of the outside world. Yes working for disney can be tough sometimes. Especailly in attractions. You have parents cussing you out because their child is not tall enough to ride and we can not allow them to ride even though the parent wants to ride very much. But for the childs safety it is not allowed if they are not tall enough. Another down side is you won't start off with many hours and in my deparment its hard to get hours from some reason, so its difficult to make a living. I still live at home thankfully but am barely making enough to pay what bills i have. But then again, getting into disney for free, getting friends and family in for free, the discounts, the specail events that are held for cast members are wonderful!!! I actually am not in the department I would like to be in, the department i really would love to go into is either entertainment, i have been trying since 2002 without success and have been to pleny of the auditions, i am just at a lousy height level. I would also love to work guest relations. Most of my cast member friends think i am nuts for wanted to work guest relations, but guest interaction is what i do best. I can not tell you how many times i have helped guests out whether it be complaints or compliments when working the college program at a full service restaurant but just helping to come up with a helpful solution so they can make the best of their trip was a wonderful feeling. I love meeting all the new people that i get to work with. Some Cast Members i have worked with have worked for disney in other parts of the world and their knowledge is just terrific! I strive to be the best cast member i can be. And sometimes i will admit it can be hard but you just have to look at the bright side of life and keep moving forward. I hope to make Disney my life long career somehow, someday.

I grew up with Disney...visiting the park regularly, watching all the movies....I always found it a very special place, and knew I wanted to work there.
When I interviewed, I was interviewed with two other people. The CM interviewing us asked if we had any preference as to where we worked, and if we saw ourselves cast in any particular role. The other two people with whom I interviewed were very specific as to what they wanted to do. I told the woman who was interviewing us that I really didn't care, that I just wanted to work for Disney, and it didn't matter where I worked.
A week later I got a congratulatory letter casting me as an Attractions Host in Tomorrowland.
I spent time in Tomorrowland, primarily on Autopia and Space Mountain. I then went out to the Main St./Parking Lot, driving trams, driving the Main St. Vehicles, and working on the Steam Trains as a conductor. From there I went to Fantasyland where I worked pretty much everything.
I enjoyed Attractions, but also know people who enjoyed there roles in custodial, merchandise, and foods as well. I guess a lot of it tends to be largely where your personality and interests lie.
Attractions was a good fit for me and I enjoyed it.
Parking Lot was probably the most difficult, as the interaction with the guests was a little different from the rest of the park, and could be challenging out there. At that point in the guests day, they just want to get into the park.
It was a very popular place to work though. Many of those working Attractions inside the park loved coming out to the Lot.
Personally my favorite was probably Small World, followed by Autopia, Matterhorn, Steam Trains, and trams in the Lot. I really didn't even mind the dark rides in Fantasyland.
Like a couple people have said here, working there is a very special thing. I've always loved everything Disney and it was a good fit for me.
Having the opportunity to work with the guests, see the faces on the children as they get on Pan, Toad, or Small World...whatever, made it so worthwhile.
Walt Disney was an amazing man, and having the chance to be a part of the magic he created was an honor and a privilege. We're all so much better people because of the contributions he gave to the world.
Good luck, Stmboat, as you pursue your future career with the park. You'll love it. It's a unique, and very special place to work, and you'll come away with lifelong friends, and a lifetime of memories from your experiences. Thank you, Walt!!

Keep it coming!-- Just another question to add to my endless amounts for all you CM's and LPers.. I am going to school in Colorado at the moment, so I'm pretty far away from DL. Anyone been successful in becoming a CM that hasn't lived in California? How did you work that all out?

lesmisfan, please no new profiles, I'm already having an identity crisis with the 3 I have now. A simple "Shiva" is most welcome between friends.

Now do me a favor and find some way to get your tookas into Entertainment. That's where you really belong.

It might be something to look into.
I worked with two young women on Small World who attended school out of state and worked at Disneyland one summer. Another guy I worked with went to Texas Tech (or A&M)...can't remember which...Another went to Southwest Louisiana. None of them were from here.
    I say check it out.

Slim22, I think it's so cool that you work at the Studios. There is so much history there and it's great that you're a part of it!

I've watched their E-presentation online, which was great, but I've found that it's always good to get input from people who have actually done it.

That's our own Disneyland Ambassador at a Disney Gallery event in 1997.

Here's the whole article, which ran as a retrospective piece just before the Gallery was closed to create the Dream Suite:

    Doug,

I'd never tease you for posting pictures! :) I love reminiscing about those times. I really hope to see you at the ceremony this year. As soon as I get a "save the date" e-mail from the Park I'll let you know. They usually try to get us a date by the beginning of summer at the latest. I'll e-mail you about trying to get that article about the Ambassdor Program written. Since I am a former Cast Member it's been challenging to get approval to write about the Program. I haven't given up! Thanks again for the pictures. I'll try to post some of my own soon. I have boxes and boxes full of them. Unfortunately I was right on the cusp of the advent of widely used digital photography! Negatives everywhere!!
