Pace yourself well the first half of the full, then you're good. Make sure your race bracelets aren't too tight when they give it to you, it will get uncomfortable during the race. Most importantly have fun :))) You'll have 3 medals to show for it, and 5 if you do the Coast to Coast :) 5 medals for 3 races :)

You are already ahead of most people.

goofy is an awesome experience, and you actually have to walk about a mile to the start line for both races, so it's more like 41-42 miles...but technically i guess it doesn't count!

I figured I needed to set an insane goal to really stick with it, and so far it's working. Dropping over $300 on registration is also a pretty good way to make sure you don't back out! : )

The more I think about this, the more rediculous it seems. It's good to know that I should be able to race more than my daily average, since I wasn't about to be doing anywhere near a full marathon on a regular basis!

Another 3 miles today. Still lots of training to do in the next 5 weeks until the Broad Street Run (10 miles in Philly).

Regarding training for a marathon, my friend would recommend trying to get to about 55 miles a week with at least one 18-mile run (or a bit longer). But you shouldn't have to do a "test run" of the full 26.2. That should be good enough for the average recreational runner.

Of course, if you're trying to make the Olympic team, then you need two-a-days, speedwork, and a weekly mileage in the triple digits.

    So what is your goal?

It has to be the new race at Disneyland that the CM told me about at the Phoenix RNR Expo, but short of that, I am stumped. I haven't any idea what those clues could even be leading towards.

Based on how fast this 1/2 filled up, they should do just fine filling up a 2nd race at DL - I assume the demand for Coast-to-Coast medals is partially to blame for that demand.

The 5k filled already too. If I remember right, that was well into June last year before it filled. Amazing how fast both races went this year.

Some have talked about the Wine and Dine Half Marathon at WDW. I ran in the Inaugural Wine and Dine race in October. The race was fun, lots of entertainment along the way to keep it interesting--as usual for the Disney races. (I've also done the WDW full marathon, but haven't found the motivation to go for the Goofy.)

I also thought it was cool that they did a Half Marathon Relay. The first person ran five miles, tagged off in the AK parking lot, and the second person ran the remaining eight miles.

I would point out that the 10:00 p.m. race time is a little tough, especially if you're used to running early in the morning.

Second, if you do run the race, try to arrange it so you don't have to check a race bag. Bag pick-up after the race was a NIGHTMARE! I almost fainted from the heat and exhaustion. I truly hope they fix this next year.

Third, after the race, runners and guests were able to wander around the World Showcase and sample the Food and Wine Festival food booths. Sounds nice, but this, too, was very poorly planned. The after race party was packed! It was way oversold and the lines for the various booths were really, really long and a number of booths sold out of items. The only way that this wouldn't have been too bad is if you were one of the first wave to finish. (Which I was not. :)

Finally, the course was fun except that around the 8-mile point there was a switch-back that was very crowded and created a huge bottle-neck.

Overall, it was a fun event, and I did it because I wanted to try a Disney Half and attend the F&W Festival, so I combined the two. But I really hope that Run Disney finds a way to fix these problems.

The new finish line location will include an expanded bag claim and changing area so you can get ready for the runner’s night out."

So, hooray! They fixed the race bag pick up problem. Thank goodness.

the first two years, the half filled up much faster than it has the last 4 years. I think because the prices kept going up, plus the second year (i think it was) was the 90+humidity, and a lot of people were discouraged. i don't remember about the 5k, I only ran it once. they really need to add a second race to california. there are like 10 races in florida and 1 in california. plus, the selfish part of me wants another opportunity to be a legacy runner!!! LOL

Right now, DL1/2 is my next race, way too far away. I want a race now!

Same here. My doctor released me to full activity earlier this month (ankle repair back in December), so I'm only back up to 3 miles and wow - am I slow! I am itching for a race and DL1/2 will be my first one post-surgery. Not expecting a PR, but so happy to be able to run again!
