It was the first time that a coaster launch had been put on an incline, and also featured the first synchronized musical score (the composer rode dozens of times before opening to make sure everything was just right). The trains are much longer (like Big Thunder, RNRC, or Screamin') and are designed to look like much older spacecraft. The station is open to the outside, as is the cannon, which is fun to watch from all over Discoveryland. A major refurb was done a couple years ago to make it Space Mountain: Mission 2, which added music more like the DL version (rock, more energy, not full orchestra), and replaced some of the dimensional props inside with projections. I believe that the part of the queue where you could watch the trains go by was covered up.

The day Disney builds a major thrill is they day I boycott them. I already feel too many thrills have been getting built since 1977 (and I like thrills, but to me that is not what Disney should be about). In Paris it has been crazy. In the last 15 years, they have added 5 new coasters, 3 of them have loops and 1 is a spinning mad mouse. We hae seen relatively few family friendly additions, and if they are, they are full of toons. I know I am not the only one who fell in love with DL when the only physical thrill was the Matterhorn and the toons only lived in Fantasyland. Man, I miss those days.

Kid and adult friendly, something that little kids can enjoy with their parents is indeed what makes Disneyland different from the other amusement parks.

I rode Stealth at Great America Both those things made me realize I like the family friendly rides - My 10 year old DD is petite and only recently reached the height to ride Screamin... and a Roller Coaster sending me face first into the ground (it was like you were flying like superman) was not my cup of tea - all I could think was please let me off, I have 4 kids that need me!

As for saying then what will the kids do if such a ride comes out? Well i have seen parents take their little kids on TT and afterwards they cry and are terrified happend twice when i was just there. I believe that kids at a certain age shouldnt be able to go on those rides. Some parents actually had the sense to leave their scared children with the cast members while they went on the ride. Would another Thrill ride besides tower of terror really be any different to add into the park? probably not i love TT and would just like to see another ride like it. I love Disneyland more then any place on the planet i agree that it is a charming and beautiful place. I shouldnt be ridiculed for one comment i am not insulting Disneyland in any way.

The short lived ALIEN ENCOUNTER at WDW was replaced by STITCH. Now AE was not necesarily an adult attraction, the kids loved it, but when STITCH moved in, the adult provision was removed. You are right, the Kiddie fantasies belong in Fantasy Land but someone is postering to put them throughout the parks. Thats an interesting find, have to see how it plays out. ID

If it is an addition and not listed, it is likely because it is thrills - ToT, Raging Spirits, Expedition Everest, Mission Space etc. Not happy. Disney used to be about emersive family experiences for all, and there was a chance you might learn something. Those days seem to be long gone. It is mainly nostalgia that probably brings me back these days. How sad. Soarin' and Test Track probably come closest to old school Disney, but they both have height or health restrictions. :-(

I am worried that with the direction of travel we have seen for the last 10 years, there will not be a Disney in 30 years time.

They also said a park without a roller coaster or ferris wheel would be a failure (it's still here after 50 odd years - though sadly they added the damn coaster and wheel in DCA). They said a park without beer would go under. Same with Pixar. Lucas sold them because he could not see the value. Apple bought it to showcase their equipment. But they produced the world's 1st CGI feature and everyone since has been huge. Disney does not need to copy, it needs to lead. Sadly for most of your life, they forgotten how to do this.
