I didn't eat at Vapiano while I was in Austria, but there are a few here in the DC area that I've eaten at before and I really like them. It's a fairly unique concept in the US, reasonable prices, and great food

We stuck to local food for almost the entire trip. It was really only our days at DLP and the day before the marathon in Bregenz that I ate things that weren't traditionally tied to the area. I've always liked German/Austrian food, so it was a lot of fun to get to eat so much of it, and try things from a variety of places. I even got to the point where I could do the entire restaurant procedure in German, which required a lot more language skills than I initially thought I remembered

That said, I don't know how you guys are able to keep vegetarian/vegan! It seemed like every single meal I had included tons of meat (almost always pork or veal), and there was rarely anything veggie-friendly on the menu other than side dishes or salads. I love meat, but even I was getting tired of it at every single meal by the end of the trip, so it must be really tough for you guys

On a completely unrelated note, I can see why How I Met Your Mother never caught on in German speaking areas. I caught it on TV, and there's so much talking! I don't know if it's a bad translation, or weird sentence structure that doesn't have an easy equivalent, or what, but it seemed like they had to rush to fit all the words in before the next character started talking.

With most things on TV I could get a general idea of what they were saying, but even knowing the plot of the episodes I saw I really struggled to keep up with the dialogue

American football in German: still good (though one of the team mascots was the Unicorns?). The Golden Girls in German: still good. How I Met Your Mother in German: no good.

There are a reasonable amount of Five Guys restaurants in the UK in cities and tourist areas. They're very popular here.

Regarding the countryside around DLP, I'm sure it must have been an inspiration for BatB. It's also no coincidence I'm sure that Hunchback came out so soon after DLP opened.

I know they had a studio in the Paris area during the production of Hunchback, but I don't know exactly where it was or how long it was around. From what I remember, they did a lot of the backgrounds and scenic work on Hunchback, among other things

Was there ever an Animation tour in WDSP like they had in the old days at MGM? For some reason, I vaguely recall reading about something like that in the building that now has Disney Jr and the Stitch attraction. If the Paris studio was still around at that point, it may have made sense to tie in with it

If I'm not mistaken the WDFA Studios were not located at DLP, but somewhere in the city of Paris. However the French Disney Channel was or still is located at WDSP. There was a tour that ended with CyberSpaceMountain.

We watched HIMYM in English, but I still didn't like it that much. There are undoubtly some very funny episodes, but the hype about the show was too much, like there's never been something like that on TV and you have to watch it. Of course there was something like that on TV already ten years ago. It was called Friends and it was so much better. Even most topics were verey similar to Friends. Now with the hype gone, I should give it a try again.

What channels did you watch over here?

I don't really know; I did a lot of switching around until I found something that I could understand and found somewhat interesting. I noticed that there seemed to be a much higher percentage of news and documentary/informational programming than in the US; a lot of it was really interesting! Among other things, I caught a program about how they maintain all the attractions and infrastructure at Europa Park which was pretty neat

I guess you have seen one of the many German news and documentary channels.

What a lovely but sad story.

A son takes his mother on a journey through 20 European cities. One city for each year she carried for her husband after a heart attack. They just visited DLP.

If memory serves me correctly it was indeed a tour of the Disney Channel studios, but there was very little to see. I'm not sure I ever saw any live filming and before Cyberspace Mountain was added the finale was made up of kid friendly activities like arts and crafts. I don't think you ever made a birthday card for a princess, but not far off.

It seems like HyperSpace Mountain will be permanent.

Although I'm sure it still won't really match the theme of the building, this gives me some hope that it will at least be done well. If this essentially becomes Mission 3, then they'll probably invest more than DL/HKDL did where they simply added projections to existing screens. I'm still not sure how the queue, load, and cannon will fit into the Star Wars theme, but at least they'll be aiming for something better than a quick-and-dirty overlay

Plus, it still seems like the track itself will need a *major* refurbishment/replacement within the next few years (when was the last time that the ride wasn't a walk-on?). As long as that is still in the eventual plans, I have some hope that it may return to a more appropriate theme sooner rather than later
Great to hear! It was a really fun event, and will surely be a success in the future. I'm not sure how many Americans will be there in year 2 (I was surprised how many were there this year), but I hope that it will have a strong enough pull to get some Europeans, now that it's a more established race. It's still the same weekend as the Berlin Marathon, which is odd timing, but hopefully it will target a different group of runners

Didn't Space Mountain go through a major refurb last year? I remember it being closed when we visited last summer...

Is there an official source for this? I would think for this change to be permanent quite a bit of retheming will be needed and I'm just not convinced at this stage. I still see it as a seasonal overlay until the ride is closed down for extended refurb at which point I could see it becoming phase two of the Star Wars expansion making way for phase three to be taking over the Imagination Institute/Pizza Planet area.

I'm getting concerned that what was once a really great cohesive land will be lost forever. It won't be long before Videopolis looks out of place against Buzz rather than the other way round.

Sounds like there's a lot of work coming up in the areas surrounding the resort. Assuming I'm reading the maps correctly, I didn't realize Disney had influence over so much land; I thought they were pretty much confined to the area inside the ring road and the Davy Crockett Ranch

I'm glad to hear that they're finally getting around to building the south entrance to the RER station. I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been any discussion of extending the rail line itself beyond the resort, but I guess there's not much density out there to support it. I'm intrigued by the new bus loop area, since it will have buses loading in the middle; even with buses only loading around the edges there were a lot of people walking through there. Hopefully the addition of marked crosswalks will help keep everything in its place

It's a shame that they're building a new practice facility for the Moteurs...Action! show. While it's still a pretty decent show (though several big moments were missing when I saw it last month), it's very dated and could use some updates. Similar to the Lion King show at DAK, it seems like they're missing an easy opportunity to update the show as part of changes required by something else

I'm also intrigued by the light rail/tram/streetcar route that was shown on a couple of the maps. It's not clear to me where all it will go, but I'm sure it will do a lot for the resort's internal transportation

I'm also intrigued by the streetcar, because that would be the perfect system for the resort. They should somehow connect the parks and the hotels too. A monorail is just too expensive, but the streetcar would be a great system.
