I actually really liked that DLP's river was brown. It looked a lot more natural with the Big Thunder rockwork and landscaping. The US rivers are green, but they're mostly surrounded by trees and forests, not a desert landscape. The current light blue is a really pretty color that makes the rockwork stand out, but it doesn't look very realistic
The problem with the river wasn't its colour, but the algae that ruined everything. I'm sure the colour will not stay as it as and it will become greener, but hopefully without the algae. Even the ships were affected by them.
I didn't realize that was such an issue. I don't think I've ever seen anything growing in DL's waterways; I've always assumed they have chemicals in them to keep that from happening. I wonder if there are some regulations against that approach in France, or if they just didn't do it for some other reason
If I'm not mistaken, they didn't want to harm the fish (or is the plural fishs) and now they worked with a government agency to improve the quality without using chemicals. All the fish got saved and soon they will be returned to the water. Next time take a look at the huge fish in Adventureland, some of them are from the Frontierland river.
I didn't know that DLP had fish in the water. I assumed that it was entirely man-made and highly controlled like the ones in DL. There are several bodies of water in the WDW parks that have lots of wildlife in them (Rivers of America has occasionally been home to alligators), but I thought that the water at the other resorts was essentially swimming pools. If it's having an impact on the durability of show elements, I wonder if there's a way that they could redo it to remove the fish
I thought that I posted the fantastic news already, but apparently I did not. The IAAPA awared DLP's Mickey and the Magicia as best theme park show of the year. It's well deserved, because the show is truly wonderful. Mickey and the Magician wins theme park industry award – new full show video
That's great news. It's a really well-done show, and many of the special effects are really impressive
Maybe it's just the lighting, but the colors on the mountain look really intense. I'm sure they will fade with time, but it almost looks like too much right now EDIT: the photos in the second link look a lot less over-the-top, so it must just be a lighting/camera issue It's interesting that they've added color to the geyser area. The old version did look rather bleak, especially in the later years, but the new colors look more like lava than anything that would come out of a geyser. It will be interesting to see how it looks once the water effects are running I'm also curious about the closure of the Pocahontas playground beginning in the new year. Seems like any work should be done by now, and it's not like it requires any staffing to keep it open, so I wonder what they're doing
Very interesting article by Eddie Sotto, former DLP Imagineer responsible for the most beautiful MS USA, about the creating of MS USA. Disneyland War Story: Details to die for.
That's interesting that Main Street had so many design difficulties. I had no idea that design on the 1920's version had progressed that far; I though it was just a rough concept. I like that DLP's MS is a little more modern than the other versions, since it makes it feel more lively and exciting, rather than the old and stuffy versions found elsewhere. It's also interesting that the shop interiors never had the problems that the exteriors did; while I've always been blown away by how well done the insides are (though I never noticed anything wrong by the exteriors), I can't help but wonder if that was an intentional political move to get "emergency" funding and resources at the last minute; I doubt Wells would have been so sympathetic if the outsides looked great but the insides were half-finished I was a little confused when he said that the park still looked great, despite no E-tickets being added since it opened. One could argue that the Indiana Jones coaster might be an E-ticket, and Space Mountain certainly is. Or did he mean Main Street specifically?
High levels of air pollution have led to Paris making public transportation free for the last couple days. Other than a free ride out there, is this having an impact on the parks? It seems like they're far enough away from the city center that the air quality should be much better Public transport made free in Paris due to high levels of pollution I haven't heard anything specifically about Shanghai Disneyland and air pollution since it opened, but I imagine it's been somewhat of an issue there. I've seen some pictures with the typical grey skies, but none where the haze blocks views within the parks; I wonder if it will get worse with the coming winter weather. I believe that the park is downwind of the city, which could pose lost of problems on especially bad days
Vapiano is now open! Here's a first look. Vapiano’s new Disney Village fast casual Italian restaurant is now open
I don't think he meant MS USA specifically, but since SM was already in development when the park opened, maybe he got confused. IJ was such a quick fix that he might have overlooked it too. Didn't he leave WDI right after DLP opened?
I'm impressed by how bold the colors are on the Alice maze. Were the original colors more pastels, or had it just faded that much through the years?
Today BTMRR opened after a year long refurbishment. http://disneyandmore.blogspot.co.at/2016/12/disneyland-paris-big-thunder-mountain_90.html
Looks great! The new explosion effects look really nice, and the moving machinery in the queue is really cool too. I don't think any of the other version have that much movement in the queue area (or if they do, it's been turned off through the years). I'm not a big fan of the font used on the box of axes, but it looks great overall It says that the Molly Brown has returned, but what about the Mark Twain? I know it went down for an extended refurbishment several years ago, following the Molly Brown's rebuild, but I haven't heard anything about it since then. Is it still around? Is it too much to expect that they might have used the extended closure of the river to finish refurbishing the other riverboat?
