Today the results for the buyback offer were released and TWDV now owns 97% of ED SCA, which means that a delisting at the Euronext in Paris and a mandatory buyout are happening. Soon ED SCA is a wholly owned subsidiary of WDP&R. Final results of the simplified public tender offer on Euro Disney S.C.A. The Walt Disney Company to implement a mandatory buy-out and delisting
According to French news sites ED SCA will get delisted from the stock exchange on June 19th. All remaining shares will be purchased for 2 Euros each. So after 25 years DLP finally with TWDC. We can only hope that this means a better future for the European resort.
It's a little bizarre as an American visiting France to eat at a Disneyifed 50's diner where the French employees are acting like 50's Americans. Great commercial though.
I couldn't care less about fireworks at Disney Village, but I want to see proper fireworks at DLP again.
In two weeks D23 Expo is taking place and since TWDC completely owns DLP now, I wonder if there will be any news regarding the future.
Yeah, but that's never going to happen. Regular fireworks could be part of the line up at Lake Disney though.
If I'm not mistaken, fireworks can't happen due to the surrounding villages, so I guess special events are the only possible occasions to do fireworks at Lake Disney.
I was under the impression that fireworks could take place on that side of the resort as it was a particular village on the north side that had complained and changed the local law.
It may be odd, but it's consistent with the original resort buildout, which aimed to copy the American-ness that made TDL so popular. Outside of the park itself (which included major upgrades to the standard Main Street and Frontierland) pretty much everything was themed to the US (which of course turned out to be one of their biggest mistakes, since the US isn't as popular in Europe as it is/was in Japan). Each of the hotels are themed to a distinct American era/location and Disney Village has sort of always been a poor man's heavily-sanitized Vegas; the anchor restaurants (other than King Ludwig's) have always been distinctly American experiences: a 50's diner, Midwestern steakhouse, a sports bar, and Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. It was sort of taking a page from the Epcot playbook and recreating idealized locations of far-away vacation destinations I agree that it seems weird to highlight fireworks in Disney Village when they only happen a couple nights per year. My understanding was the same as @u k fan fan, that the towns to the north of the resort placed the restrictions, but the areas around Disney Village and the Studios would be okay; I've always heard that they avoided fireworks on the lake since there was no way to charge admission; perhaps that will change now that Disney owns everything. It sure seems like a cool place to see a show, since everything would be so close (similar to the rare pyro shows in DCA)
Here's a new DLP update including Les Villges Nature. La Gazette: La ForĂȘt de l'Enchantement est de retour !
The parks are both looking really nice! It seems like all those refurbishments have done a lot of good. I'm looking forward to seeing it all in person in a couple months! What is going on with the railroad? It has the theoretical ability to be the highest-capacity attraction in the park, but it's posting a 45 minute wait, and only operating for 7 hours of the day. It's not exactly anybody's must-do attraction, which makes the wait time even crazier. I know DLP has all sorts of operational issues (that will hopefully get sorted out now that Disney owns it all), but this seems to be the absolute worst
With all the refurbs the parks are really looking nice, especially DLP, but some attractions desperately need some attention. As I mentioned in my trip report, the park looks great on the outside, but not so good on the inside. When we have been to DLP a few weeks ago, they only operated one train. That's Disneyland Paris!!!!
Today POTC reopened at DLP! The new Barbossa AA looks fantastic! Source: Inside The Magic Here's a video of the whole ride: Source: dlrpfans All the changes to the ride in 2 minutes:
It looks really nice! As much as anything, it's great to see all the various effects up and running again. Hopefully they'll continue to maintain it without requiring large refurbishments The Barbosa figure looks really neat. Shortly after the first POTC film came out, there were rumors of DL adding an alternate ride experience (using the existing maintenance track behind the scenery) full of ghost pirates, where you could only ride at night. There weren't many clear details, but I always imagined the AA's looking something like this. I'm also glad that the ship's captain gets to remain the non-movie version The auction scene...eh, I get why they made the change, but it's still kind of a dumb-looking end result. They really should have completely ditched the auction concept and come up with an entirely new scene instead
For an update that really doesn't go into the parks themselves, there sure seems to be a lot going on! The Christmas projections on TOT look interesting. Do they still do the Star Wars show nightly, or was that just a seasonal event? Seems like that park could stand to have a major nighttime show to keep people there in the evenings (though with how late it gets dark in summer, there are obvious challenges) It looks like the Nala building is a new costuming facility. Will this replace the one between the Toon Studios and Ratatouille areas? It's kind of awkward to have such a major facility sticking into the park, creating that bland walkway between the two areas with nothing worthwhile along the way. Removing it would free up enough space for a new attraction or two
No they don't do the Star Wars show anymore. It was a seasonal event, but this event will return next year, because it was quite successful. I don't know if the Nala building will replace the current costuming building, but it would be great to see the current one replaced with a second Crush's Coaster track. This attraction is still so popular that the waiting times ecxeed an hour on a regular basis. On a side note, it looks like TWDC has taken down DLP's corporate homepage. http://corporate.disneylandparis.com/error-404-static.html
